[1.1.49] frequent lags in the game

Post by novimb »

About once every half a minute in the game, drops in FPS and UPS occur. The drawdown lasts less than 2 seconds. I used to play on this device, but recently I was forced to reinstall windows, after which this problem appeared. This happens both in the game and in the menu. This bug appears when I add more than ten mods. It doesn't matter which mods I add. I tried to fix this problem by updating the drivers, however it didn't change anything. Launched factorio only on the built-in video card and integrated. I also installed a game driver for my video card, which also did not lead to anything.

No lags:

let the drop show only up to 47, in fact, at this moment the game sags to about 5-10 fps

my pc:
notebook ASUS
Windows 64 Home
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-8250U CPU @ 1.60GHz 1.80 GHz
RAM 12Gb
Intel(R) UHD Graphics 620
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050

The whole log might be of some help (you can find how to get it here : viewtopic.php?f=49&t=52433).

Code: Select all

0.656 Dedicated video memory size 1979 MB
I'm not very proficient with Factorio logs, but my first bet would be insufficient VRAM for your mod list. you have the recommended hardware requirements, but in the past, it was sometimes not enough to run mods with tons of contents - like bob's + angels + Yuoki + alien biomes + + +

Ironically, you might have less issues trying to force the game to run on the integrated GPU, as it uses part of your RAM as VRAM (up to half of it). Factorio needs almost no GPU power, but a surprising amount of VRAM for the sprites.

But I might be totally wrong, in which case you'll have to wait for a better log reader than myself :).

CPU Overheating cause symptoms similar to what you describe. Check your cooling system.

Not sure if the problem is in the video card as:
1. I tried to run factorio on both embedded intel and integrated nvidia. The result is the same, the same intervals between lags, also the duration
2. I have already played on this device with the same mode, before before reinstalling windows, and there were no problems
3. The number of lags does not depend on how high the graphics level I set in the game. What is at the minimum, what is at the maximum, the lags are the same
4. Lags occur even in the lobby where there are very few objects

Although I would still like to try to allocate more video memory for factorio, because it uses only 33%. Can I do this?

I noticed that too much time is spent on loading entities, can this narrow the search circle?

Disable v-sync. If the issue persists, recreate the screenshots with the exact debug settings from 68653 and post a save to sync your mods.

It turned out that I just didn't pay attention to the fact that a reboot is required to change the graphics settings. So after I did it right, changing the graphics to a minimum, the problems disappeared. That is, the problem was a shortage of VRAM. But then the question is if factorio lacked video memory, why did she not use the video card completely, but only 2Gb of the available 6Gb? Can I force you to use it more?

Being as you’ve done a reinstall of your OS, I wonder if it’s a configuration or driver issue? But I don’t know for sure.

I'm not aware of any 1050 that has 6GB of RAM - nVidia only lists 2/3/4GB cards. You might want to double check what card you have and it's specs. You can use a utility like GPU-Z to determine that.

As it is, Factorio uses what VRAM the system says it has. If it's using 2GB, then 2GB is what your system said it has.
