Rehearsal/training mode?

Post by yosraz »

Is there any training/rehearsal/god mode with everything unlocked and infinite resources? I need to practice and test some layouts.

The Sandbox scenario (on the New Game menu) is almost exactly what you suggest.

But I use the editor (open the console and type "/editor" to toggle) for testing layouts because:
- You get infinity chests, infinity pipes and loaders, so you can create a belt full of any item or pipe full of fluid, or destroy produced items/fluid.
- You get electric energy interface which you can use as a electricity source (to power what you're testing) or sink (to test power production).
- Cutting and pasting act instantly (removing and creating entities instead of marking for deconstruction and placing ghosts respectively).

I use :
- Sandbox mode with /editor
- Editor Extensions mod
- Bottleneck mod

To be able to switch freely between my games and my testing ground, I installed a standalone Factorio version (downloaded the zip file from Factorio website) so that I can my regular game vanilla.

- Bottleneck mod
Give Bottleneck Lite a try. It takes advantage of newer APIs, eliminating performance overhead. The original can have quite an impact on UPS on big bases. Comparison of lite to the original from the mod portal page:

Pros
  • Zero runtime overhead
  • Instant responsiveness regardless of scale
  • Indicators can glow in the dark
  • Significantly fewer settings (some might consider this a con)
Cons
  • Changing settings requires restarting Factorio
  • No hotkey to toggle the indicators - enabling/disabling them is a setting, and so requires a restart
  • Only one style of indicator (no alert, cross, stop, minus, or 3D variants)
  • No indicators on labs
Also check out raiguard's other mods, there are a lot of nice utilities among them.

Thank you everyone for great tips, help and suggestions. This surely is a friendly community. Much better than the one on Steam.
