[pY AL] Composting for Biomass

Post by BlueTemplar »

There's a (kind of) duplicate recipe showing up for Ralesia composting :

Code: Select all

    ['ralesia'] = {item_amount = 10, biomass_amount = 20},
and

Code: Select all

    ['ralesias'] = {item_amount = 5, biomass_amount = 2},
Both show up in the pYcyclopedia, Helmod and WiiRUF, but only the first one seems to be used by the composter ?
(The one giving 5 times more biomass per plant...)

Is it normal that both Guar Bean Seeds and Guar Gum can be composted, but Powdered Ralesia Seeds cannot ?

composting is a mess when it comes to stuff that isnt meant to b composted for a profit
most recipes give a token amount 5 or so since that is the default
only 10 or so recipes are for the real composting , and in there there is ralesia too ( more or less) and no one thought of powdered since why powder it when u have the seeds as a recipe

Because then you might need less of those HUGE composters-
(Why do you torture us so, couldn't you have made a reasonable-sized one, like with the ash burner ? )
-like it's the currently the case for guar / guar bean seeds / guar gum,
(might be different without the unofficial pY energy & pollution ?),
at the cost of some efficiency ?

well the number of composters is sort of random since all recipes have same speeed but the same differs and sometimes i feel it should be higher like moss weed and wood should be maybe speed up

On the matter of composting, is there any particular recipe that's especially efficient? I got green science earlier today and I've mostly been using moss and sometimes wood up to this point (where moss is especially favourable since I can make carbon dioxide from the subsequent biomass to then produce more moss). Curious if there are any better options moving forward.

Logs and phytoplankton.

Well, certainly *not* phytoplankton from iron !

Wood/Logs and moss also don't seem particularly good IIRC.

I've been helmoding a lot biomass lately, and
(assuming the unofficial py pollution and energy mod)
the best at "early" green science still seems to be the (red science) guar,
(which is even better than soil filtration !)
the second one being fawogae (with all the complexity that comes with the fungal substrate and auog food).

Relevant changes from that mod :
- Raw fuels like Wood, Coal and Crude Oil now pollute more while processed fuels pollute less. This should motivate players to build advanced processing chains.
- Combustion Turbine rebalancing.
- Balancing of Biomass - it should not be the best fuel in the game
Version: 0.4.0
Date: 2020.07.12
Changes:
- Nerfing Biomass which is stupidly strong as a fuel and can be made from basically anything
- Biomass now pollutes 10% (slightly more than Raw Coal) more and has 2MJ fuel value (down from 4MJ)
- Compost Plants now generate more pollution
- All Biomass recipes now take longer to craft (composting takes time, right?)
- Crafting Biomass from Oil products is now significantly less effective (why is it even possible?)
- Some recipes like Sap/Wood/Logs/Moss/Seaweed (easily obtainable stuff) to Biomass have been nerfed
Version: 0.4.1
Date: 2020.07.14
Changes:
- Reducing Biomass' pollution from 110% to 105% (equal to Raw Coal)
- Compost Plant's pollution per minute remains the same at all MKs (as opposed to other buildings for which it increases) and has been reduced from 10/m to 5/m
- Compost Plant's energy consumption has been significantly reduced (down from ~413kW to 50kW at MK01)
- Increased duration of all composting recipes to 30 seconds (up from 6 seconds in v0.4.0 and 3 seconds default)
[...]
Version: 0.4.2
Date: 2020.07.15
Changes:
- Reducing crafting cost of Compost Plants (MK1 - MK4) to 50% of the original amount
- Reducing duration of compost recipes to 10 seconds (30 seconds was way too high considering the size of the building)
Version: 0.4.3
Date: 2020.07.20
Changes:
- Most Biomass recipes have been rebalanced, notably Kicalk and some other exploitable ones (see forum post for a complete list of changes)

Version 0.4.3 released. I had to make some more fixes after finding Biomass recipes like 4x Kicalk into 280 biomass and other BS. The only changes in this version are Biomass recipes.

To understand the reasoning and how the recipes are grouped and tiered please check the file on github (https://github.com/esso23/pypollution/b ... iomass.lua), it should be readable even for a non-coder.

Any feedback is always appreciated.

Complete list of changed recipes:
long list is long
Version: 0.4.4
Date: 2020.07.27
Changes:
[...]
- Combustion Mixture recipes using Biomass have been adjusted to produce the same amounts as when using Coke, these recipes are:
- Coal Gas, Coal Slurry, Tall Oil, Hydrogen, Syngas, Gasoline, Diborane, Fuel Rods
- Doubled the amount of both ingredients and products in Wood->Biomass and Logs->Biomass recipes
- Duration of Biomass recipes reduced to 9 seconds (from 10)
Version: 0.4.5
Date: 2020.08.01
[...]
- Biomass fuel value is now 1MJ (this has been set by Pyanodon recently)
Version: 0.4.7
Date: 2020.08.09
Changes:
[...]
- Powdered Biomass, Fine Powdered Biomass and Dried Biomass now have the same pollution modifier as Biomass

I don't remember the science level but Kicalk and Kicalk seeds are the best I've found. Biomass isn't a problem now.

Late red science (poor alien samples, cDNA) for Kicalk.

Thanks, I had helmoded composting raw fiber and cellulose from kicalk, but forgot the plants and seeds themselves !

In any case, they still have *terrible* performance in pY Pol&E (at least before fertilizer ?) : unlike for guar and fawogae, it takes many times the energy that you get from burning the biomass, to produce that biomass from them and their derivatives !
