Trees should regenerate health (or have hidden HP bars) ☸

Re: Tree Behavior Proposal
Trees can just throw themselves into a special list when they get damaged. No need to tick every tree.SHiRKiT wrote:Both of them requires tree to having a tick operation. Unless they throw into a single controller, which could help reduce the performance impact.
Re: Tree Behavior Proposal
Call me crazy, but maybe trees can just hide their health bar.

Re: Trees should regenerate health
I support this suggestion.
Re: Trees should regenerate health
I just thought about bumping this topic back up again
Wube, please take this into consideration. The tree health bars are really ugly and useless. Even the bars simply not showing would be a great improvement.

+1. Hate health bars on trees in random places of the mapGewaltSam wrote: trees regenerate their hp

Re: Trees should regenerate health
Personally I would rather see them rot and disappear.. seems more realistic to me.
Re: Trees should regenerate health
Well, badly damaged trees should rot, but if the devs don't want to differentiate between low and high health I would prefer healing over dying.

Re: Trees should regenerate health
No matter how it is done, I just want those terrain feature healthbars gone. Perhaps the game could just not display them, and save that information for the mouseover information window?
Re: Trees should regenerate health
This solves the problem, would be dead easy to code, and would have no performance impact. I vote for this.lancar wrote:No matter how it is done, I just want those terrain feature healthbars gone. Re: Trees should regenerate health (or have hidden HP bars)
Don't know about that... It's inconsistent with the rest of the game.

Re: Trees should regenerate health (or have hidden HP bars)
If you differentiate between enemy buildings, player buildings and neutral terrain doodads, it would be consistent if all items of the latter group behaved that way.
Re: Trees should regenerate health (or have hidden HP bars)
Is it really? It would make sense to me if terrain objects like trees and rocks were treated differently from gameplay objects like player buildings and spawners as they really only work as a decoration, resource and obstacle.Nova wrote:Don't know about that... Healing or rotting would still be preferable, but healthbar hiding is a still good yet very simple solution.
Re: Trees should regenerate health (or have hidden HP bars)
The plan (long time ago) was, that trees die, if the pollution is too high. This implies, that trees gain health, if not.
Cool suggestion: Eatable MOUSE-pointers.

Graphical Option: Turn Health Bars Off for Trees
Would love the option to turn off the health bars for trees. Every time I shotgun a forest or poison one I have to OCD chop down all the hurt trees to keep the health bars from tickling my brain in the bad way.
Re: Graphical Option: Turn Health Bars Off for Trees
I think that slow regeneration of tree health would be better solution for these ugly bars.
Re: Graphical Option: Turn Health Bars Off for Trees
But it's also potentially complicated for the developers. Handling potentially thousands of damaged trees slowly regenerating could get complicated (especially in multiplayer with desyncs - there are already enough problems with damage causing desyncs). It's the ideal solution, of course, but healthbar hiding is much quicker and won't break things.
