Multiplayer between GOG and Steam

I have the GOG version of this game and my friend bought it on Steam. Unfortunately, we can't see the same list of public servers nor can we easily set up a public host connection. Is there anyway to play between GOG and Steam?

Should be no problem at all, most likely you do not have the same game version, gog often takes a while to update. You can download and install the same version as your friend from factorio.com if this is the case, check the technical help faq.

We do have the same version. Unfortunately the steam list of public servers is simply different from the gog list. I ended up just buying another copy on steam. I suppose I'll just chuck it up as a donation.

There is no steam list and there is no gog list, if you do not see the same servers in the ingame server browser then either you have different versions, incorrectly set browser filters or when hosting yourself, incorrectly set server settings. There is only one server list, and it is hosted on factorio.com.

Or something even simpler, like accidentially scrolling down the list, or clicking one of the table headers to change the sorting order.
