[1.3.34] Bad Allocation - Crashes on startup

Post by Thund3rst0rm_cz »

Ok, hopefully I´m doing this right.
So I might be a bit of an idiot, but I have external disc on which I stash basicqally everything, though games have priority. I do this so that I can take them with myself anywhere I go, since my PC is desktop, which aside from other things are not exactly known for being portable. The thing is,Last time factorio worked for me, it was plugged into a PC with FAR better parameters than my PC (like double the RAM memory, for example). Ever since then, I cannot launch Factorio, the reason being bad allocation. I have tried expanding the paging, which didn´t help, and I couldn´t find any other help around here either, as at least the log would suggest that there is roughly 5GB of free RAM space. Reinstalling game twice didnt help, restarting the PC didn´t either. Had some leftover mods, threw them away, didn´t help either. So while I have a bit better general knowledge of computers (I do have an IT school), I have to turn to you guys. Hopefully I´m just an idiot and am missing something trivial. Thanks in advance.

The game is trying to allocate absurd amounts of memory, so expanding it won't help. A steam install on a portable drive feels like a bad solution, you should either install it on both machines and sync the save files or install the .zip version on the portable drive.
The fact that it crashes right after checking steam cloud files suggests that the mix of portable install with steam cloud corrupted something.
I'd make a copy of all saves locally and delete all factorio cloud files on steam. If that does not do it, deinstall factorio through steam, manually delete all files and folders locally and then reinstall.
