Hello! Recently I picked up this game off the website and saw it was DRM free. Would I be allowed to share this game with a friend so we can play multiplayer together or would he also need to purchase an account upgrade?

You do not actually own the game, you own a license to use it and that license is for you only and cannot be lend of given away. You can check the EULA in game for the exact wording.
