Disabling provider chests with circuit network

Post by kitters »

To allow red, yellow, green chests to be not only providers of logistic network, but chests/storages.

For example, I want a chest to have a buffer for a inserter to take, and allow drons to take only surplus.
I can load stuff in a steel chest and tune a inserter to transport from a steel chest to a provider chest if a steel chest full enough. But then i have to build TWO outputs for a steel chest - a provider chest and that inserter - and one input. This takes too much space and doesn't allow me to build a row of chests for a train station, for example.

It also opens a lot of opportunities for fine tuning with different signals. I saw some suggestions here to give a player more control over drons(robots), like allow requester chests get stuff only from a specific defined list of providers and etc. I think my suggestion will give players a lot of control but needn't almost nothing to change (robot AI,...), it's easy to insert in the game. Like the very beautiful decision of train limits in a recent patch as the answer for... that problems with same-name stations.

That’s what buffer chests seems to be useful. :)

But maybe I don’t understood your usecase.
Cool suggestion: Eatable MOUSE-pointers.

No, I think he wants the inserter to take priority over the bots. That is: keep 100 for the inserter, and only allow bots to use items over 100. This could be achieved with multiple chests and circuits, but not with one buffer chest.

Anyways: low chance of implementation, because it reduces puzzle factor and so gameplay. :)

Yes, that's what i meant.
But it's only one among many things you can do with such control.
So in my view it doesn't reduse but increase by a lot puzzle factor ;)
