The car has taken 1 damage but 1 full bar is missing.
I was thinking maybe having a near full green bar would be a better representation of the hp status.
Like this:

Agreed.
When I just started playing and bumped into something, I was sure the car was very fragile as I lost around a 1/6th of its HP already. Only later I noticed the health numbers (just 1-10hp lost) and the big bar above the toolbar. It still sometimes confuses me.
