New Productivity Window

Post by Thegermanguy »

Hi there,

I would like to see a productivity Window. Production Windows shows how many goods are produced. A Productivity Window could show how efficient production machines are running.

example: At the moment I can see: I have 1000 assemblers for green circuits and they are producing at half as much as i calculated. I could check each single one and find out what the Problem is.
This new window could show me: half of my assemblers have full outputs and are therefore not working.
This is implemented similarly at the Powerconsumption-Window: there I can see how much Power I consume right now, how much more I could produce if my base could use it.

other example: I have a lot of mining outpost with included smelting. This window could show me if my smelters are running dry because the miners are running dry, or if my iron plates stack up in my smelters because nothing ist consuming any plates right now.

That's an awesome idea. I wonder if anyone has made a mod for this already

Thanks for you snarky comment.
Would you be so kind and link it?

I did not find a mod that contains statistics on why my machines are not producing.

I don't think the comment was intended to be snarky.

Searching the mods for "productivity" mostly finds stuff about productivity modules, but searching for "statistics" turned up a couple of things that might be helpful:

https://mods.factorio.com/mod/statorio
https://mods.factorio.com/mod/production-monitor

I'm not sure either of these is exactly what you want; I gather you're trying to really measure efficiency, that is, whether your assembly machines (for example) are running constantly, producing as fast as they can, or whether they're idling sometimes due to lack of input or lack of output space.

Wait, I found another one that might be more along the lines of what you're looking for, though I'm not sure it displays in a graph or anything. It seems to just display on each machine:

https://mods.factorio.com/mod/UtilizationMonitorBlargh
Display utilization of various buildings as a percentage for the last 60 seconds (configurable by type - 60 is the default for all types except reactors, which default to 1200 seconds or 20 minutes). 100% utilization means the building was fully working in every single tick in the last 60 seconds. Buildings low on power will show a corresponding reduction in utilization, as will item shortages, overfills, or any other condition keeping the building from its peak performance.

Not exactly what asked by OP, but this mod is of great use to diagnose bottlenecks :

first of all: thank you for your detailed answer.

I actually tried https://mods.factorio.com/mod/production-monitor , but it does bring only a small benefit. I used to check in production statistics whether I produce or than I use by just comparing the values for a specific item for a specific period. It does not show the reason why it is not producing.

https://mods.factorio.com/mod/UtilizationMonitorBlargh seems like it also does not show a cumulative value or reasons why it is not producing.

Here some explanation for my suggestion: I have a big base with many "modules", connected by trains. Now I have 10 modules producing green circuits and in production window I can see only 8 of them are working (only 80k of 100k production capacity is working.) Now I can check all of them one by one on the map to find out why they are not at full capacity. And I have to remember the max. capacity for all my products.

There is also
https://mods.factorio.com/mod/assemblyanalyst

This shows how time was spent as a proportional bar.
