Connect research labs to circuit/logic network

I would love to be able to connect research labs with red and green wires, so that I can conditionally produce research packs. In fact, I'd like to be able to see research statistics in a mod - how many labs they are, how many are active with what research packs. What packs are missing? That sort of thing. Does the modding API provide much support for querying research?

You could achieve something similar with just the logic network. Sine you know how many packs you need to research something you could set up something so it would produce only X amount. A smart inserter removing science packs till X have been produced. Or something more complex (like a counter) with the smart circuits plugin. (Either removing it from the grid or disabling the inserters.)
