Another week, another issue of Alt-F4! The sixteenth week of this merry series of words to be precise. To celebrate, TheKool continues his Complexity Corner series by asking the five Ws about speed modules. Afterwards, DedlySpyder pontificates on how modding inspiration sometimes comes from unexpected places.

Re: Alt-F4 #16 - Modulating Pure Speed
In not so much retrospect (never used that mod) that menu looks clunky. Why isn't it a simple "scroll-wheel to select next chest type" *before* placement? Or at least "place last used chest type by default". A pop-up gui for such a simple interaction seems far from optimal. In retrospect though, I can’t believe it wasn’t in the mod from the beginning

Because like the change in the blog I never thought to do it. Though it looks like scroll wheel is disabled for custom inputs, but still a hotkey to cycle chests would be easier. Thanks for the idea.eradicator wrote: ↑Fri Dec 04, 2020 2:24 pmIn not so much retrospect (never used that mod) that menu looks clunky. Works fine for me (just tested with a random modded input), even with modifier keys.DedlySpyder wrote: ↑Fri Dec 04, 2020 6:22 pm Though it looks like scroll wheel is disabled for custom inputs

Weird, I'll try it out tonight. The wiki must be out of date:eradicator wrote: ↑Fri Dec 04, 2020 6:47 pmWorks fine for me (just tested with a random modded input), even with modifier keys.DedlySpyder wrote: ↑Fri Dec 04, 2020 6:22 pm Though it looks like scroll wheel is disabled for custom inputs
https://wiki.factorio.com/Prototype/Cus ... y_sequence"mouse-wheel-up", "mouse-wheel-down", "mouse-wheel-left", "mouse-wheel-right" for mouse wheel (mouse wheel controls do not work for custom inputs!)

Yea. I remembered they used to be broken when you said that. But... they *seem* to work now. Can't find anything about that in the changelog either. Also ofc using plain wheel also triggers zoom so realistically you have to use a modifier. Or maybe you can do some hacky magic with a custom blueprint book that directly taps into the built-in mouse-wheel logic.
