[1.1.1] Hide character GUI while in a vehicle again?

[1.1.1] Hide character GUI while in a vehicle again?

Long story short, I strongly prefer to play with the Spidertron Engineer mod, which basically replaces your character with a spidertron. It does this by locking you inside a spidertron, and disabling all armor, gun, etc recipes so that the spidertron effectively is your character instead.

As such, it makes the character GUI useless; you can't make armor or equip guns or anything. Is there any way to disable the character GUI after the changes done in 1.1? It wastes a lot of space as-is, especially on high GUI scales:

(Also, a way to move it back to the right would be nice, but that's less important.)

I think it is a mod issue.. It should create "fish-character" with an icon of a fish and no weapons or ammo slots then switch player's character to that fish character instead :P

Sounds more like an interface request to me, to have more fine-grained control over LuaPlayer.game_view_settings which currently doesn't allow disabling the weapon guis seperately.

While you're clearly kidding here, I still want to take this as an invitation to discuss multiple characters a bit further. Hope you don't mind! :-)

EDIT: I've removed the wall of text I've written before even posting it. It didn't feel appropriate for this thread, so I've moved it to Ideas and suggestions. Nevertheless, I'd be glad to get your opinion on this! :-)
A good mod deserves a good changelog. Here's a tutorial (WIP) about Factorio's way too strict changelog syntax!

Would that actually work? I'm the author of the Spidertron Engineer mod, so I'd be happy to look at doing that.

I'm also planning a few more usability improvements (such as smoothing over the disconnect between the spidertron and player's inventory), though these will likely be quite hacky approaches, not intended by the API.
