Since the game developers have removed hidden game objects they don't plan to use for anything in their commercial game, does this mean these objects have become "abandoned intellectual property" / with a similarly "abandoned visual/graphical copyright" ?
Apparently they could now be added back into the game by someone else, via a "minimalist 1.1 add-back objects" mod so that people who used them in the past can continue to use the objects, post 1.0 ... and with no concerns about copyright or IP theft since the devs don't want the things anymore.

Re: Objects removed in 1.1 ... abandoned IP, add them back
Even in jurisdictions that do have "abandonment" (mine doesn't) i very much doubt that it happens instantly. Also a possibly temporal removal is an extremely weak indicator to jump to conclusions about abandonment.Plawerth wrote: Wed Nov 25, 2020 2:33 pm Since the game developers have removed hidden game objects they don't plan to use for anything in their commercial game, does this mean these objects have become "abandoned intellectual property" / with a similarly "abandoned visual/graphical copyright" ?
You can do that anyway as mods are allowed to use and remix game assets as per the official TOS.Plawerth wrote: Wed Nov 25, 2020 2:33 pm Apparently they could now be added back into the game by someone else, via a "minimalist 1.1 add-back objects" mod

The concept of IP abandonment depends on the country's laws. In the US, such concept exists. In France, IP is a right that is automatic, inalienable, and can't be revoked even after the death of the owner, and even when the IP has fallen into the public domain (which happens 70 years after the author's death).
As I understand things with my very amateur understanding, when one owns something, one can't "unown" it, even by stopping using it.
