[1.0.0] Marked 'alpha' release

The About box in a stand-alone install still lists the Release as an 'alpha'.

Literally unplayable as a final release version.

In this context "alpha" means something like "standalone". For me, this text says "steam" since I installed Factorio via Steam. In the past, it was mentioned somewhere that they did not want to change this because it would break many automatic update scripts. Or something in that spirit.
