Science Pack Names
Science Pack Names
Apparently a post must have a body even if it's a poll so I typed this.

Re: Science Pack Names
Voted "depends"
Red, Green, Military, Blue, Yellow, Purple, Space.
I know that Military is black and Space is white, but I neither know nor care the names or uses of any of the colors.

Re: Science Pack Names
For me it depends not on the science pack but on the discussion, who I'm talking with and how. That being said, I do think referring by color is the easiest since it's obvious, requires no other knowledge and is far less error-prone.
Re: Science Pack Names
Voted by color, although I occasionally say military and (slightly more often) space.
There are 10 types of people: those who get this joke and those who don't.

Re: Science Pack Names
Voted color, as I usually use the colors for the science packs.

My own personal Factorio super-power - running out of power.
Re: Science Pack Names
Never thought about it, but I name them the same way. Military is a gray color, which is presumably a deliberate joke. I think the reason I don't use "gray" for military science is "gray" has a certain tempo to it, I pronounce it more like ger-ay vs "green" which is one syllable. "Military" rolls. Space is space. Gotta go to space. Can't wait.5thHorseman wrote: ↑Sat Dec 28, 2019 8:59 am Voted "depends"

Re: Science Pack Names
I developed that habit as well. Military packs are not in the main research progression. Same with Space science packs. So mentally they feel more like a fringe element, with a much clearer purpose then what the other packs represent. All the others start becoming an additive element to higher tiers of research, which further muddies any distinction they have with the type of technology being researched.Honktown wrote: ↑Sun Dec 29, 2019 1:35 pmNever thought about it, but I name them the same way. Re: Science Pack Names
Red flask (or bottle), green flask...
I first played Factorio a couple of years ago and they were called science pack 1 and such - and some of them had slightly different recipies, so when I loaded my save in version 1 I had to redo some things.

Re: Science Pack Names
Science is a concept with no physical form, so it makes no sense whatsoever to me to call the bottles "science". And the German equivalent (my usual multiplayer chat language) is even worse. So:
(other) "$Color bottles". As in "We need more blue bottles!".
On rare occasions i've called them names of popular same-color real-life fluids. Mostly (dishwashing) detergents or similar.

Re: Science Pack Names
The color are easier imo because you can't get them wrong, else it's easy to forgot or swap names.
also i sadly admit i don't say black or white science but military and space, to avoid "jokes".

Re: Science Pack Names
But military science is grey! And space science is different from all the others, so it's fine to call it different

Same here with the first part but we've called them potions since forever5thHorseman wrote: ↑Sat Dec 28, 2019 8:59 am Voted "depends"
