I'm looking for people to test one of my old map, non UPS-friendly and share their results. I got some disappointing results on differents machines so i would like to get more data.
Here's are my tests:
1)35UPS/FPS
I7 4770 K 3.4ghz
ddr3-2133 Mhz cas 11 dual channel
2)39UPS/FPS
Ryzen 7 3770X 4.3Ghz
ddr4-3200 Mhz cas 14 dual channel
3)38UPS/FPS
I5 9600 KF 4.2Ghz
ddr4 -3000 Mhz cas 15 single channel
I feel it very strange 7 years old computer got almost same results than recent builds. I'm still investigating on why, trying to understand which build can run factorio best.
To add yours, download map here
https://fromsmash.com/map-factorio
then launch game (better in version 18.38, if not please tell it)
Just launch map (discard missing mod window) without moving and wait about a minute for UPS to stabilize (big drop at launch). A rough approximation is ok as UPS isn't really stable on this map.
then post your result here with your config.
Thx for your time and sorry for bad english.

Re: Requesting fps test on your machine
48UPS/FPS, drops to 43 when a biter wave hits your defenses before getting back up
I7 8770 K 4.8GHz
ddr4-3000 Mhz cas 15
tested in 0.18.45
This post should help you understand why your 7 years old rig still performs decently.

44 FPS/UPS
Ryzen 3900x
DDR4-3200 CL14
Version 0.18.45
I would recommend to use the benchmark mode to get accurate benchmarks, or you could refer to https://factoriobox.1au.us/ which already collects results for different CPU's that use the benchmark mode and a set map.

I'm an admin over at https://wiki.factorio.com. Feel free to contact me if there's anything wrong (or right) with it.
Re: Requesting fps test on your machine
I'll start with the worst case scenario:
1)40-44 UPS/FPS (if you start the game)
I5 6400 non-K 4.6Ghz
ddr4 -3188 Mhz 18-19-19-38 8Gb Single (((
if you run the correct test, the results are worse, in the screenshot in the attachment A slightly better option:
2)I5 6400 non-K 4.6Ghz
ddr4 -3414 Mhz 17-18-18-36 32Gb Dual !!!! The result is also in the screenshot, but only the test, the game did not start.
But the tests show a difference of 6 UPS, which means that in real life there will be all 10.
And this is on an officially unclockable processor 5 years ago.
Will you draw your own conclusions or suggest? )
Upd:
Well, the third option.
I can run the test, but when I start the game like this:
1)50-56 UPS/FPS (if you start the game)
I7 9700K 4.9Ghz
ddr4 -3600 Mhz 19-19-19-38 32Gb Dual
By the way, the test with this card shows 41 UPS Not much more than 6400 ))))
Upd3: So, I think I understand why there is such a big difference between the UPS indicators in the game itself and in the test. But this will be analysis in another topic.
Re: Requesting fps test on your machine
Thanks all for your answers.
Regarding official benchmarking, i tried it already but i got results that don't match my experience, that's why i conduct my own.

Intel Core i7-4770K CPU
Memory (24 GiB)
2x 8 GiB at 1600 MHz
2x 4 GiB at 1600 MHz
Those results are logical but in game it's a bit different.
From what i've read, and I've already read lot of posts about cpu performance on factorio, here's my conclusion :
By order of importance:
1)Ram speed with lowest cas latency (dual channel over single, quad does not seems to make a big difference)
2)memory cache latency, so intel is much better over AMD
3)single thread performance
4)CPU max frequency, bonus if special boost on single threading
5)MOBO adapted to the setting ofc, better if NB or infinity fabric can handle higher ram speed and latency
I just bought the ryzen 7 3700x showed in test and got disapointed by the low ups gain to my old i7 4770K, but i understand why now. Hopefully i got the possibility to resell it at full price so i planned to get an intel instead. Then i tested it on my brother's computer (the I5) which should be much better but got almost same result so i'm scratching my head. I'm looking for a I7 10700KF but as it's not cheap, i want to be sure i'll get decent ups gain worth the investment. I'm playing factorio 8h/day since 3 years so i'm ready to pay a lot to get my experience better, just want to be sure to not throw money for almost no results.

Re: Requesting fps test on your machine
10700KF I think will be at the level of 9700KF, but you can see for yourself that 9900KS is the leader.z-em wrote: ↑Sun Aug 09, 2020 12:42 pm I'm looking for a I7 10700KF but as it's not cheap, i want to be sure i'll get decent ups gain worth the investment. AMD processors are not the best choice for this particular game. It is possible that someday this will change
Well, memory should be as fast as possible, 3600 and higher with low timings.
In any case, we will wait for the results from 10700K
Re: Requesting fps test on your machine
The i7 10700 KF is basically a i9 9900 K with few more mhz and support 2900mhz max ram instead of 2666mhz for the same price, so i'll go for i7. Sure i'll benchmark it and post here the results.
I finally understood why the i5 of my brother wasn't getting good results: It got single channel ram. That must explain the strange results
My soul is in peace now
Re: Requesting fps test on your machine
Development speed of desktop processors have been almost negligible during last decade. Manufacturers have focused on mobile processors. I have i7 3770K and decided after every new generation that there is no any real reason to buy new computer. I do not pay 1000 € for 25 % increase. Last generations have increased number of cores in reasonable price class up to 6 or 8 but it does not help with Factorio.
Re: Requesting fps test on your machine
I would still like to see the benchmark results with this processor on the site. There is none. If not difficult
And further. Yesterday my playful pens reached for an Intel Core i3-9100 processor ($ 117, but this with an integrated video, without it - even cheaper ). Several results on the site. With single-channel memory, and with two-channel memory, and with slightly compressed timings.
With a comparable UPS, processors from the opposite camp have x3-x4 more prices. Applied to Factorio, of course.

Here are the promised benchmark results:
I7 10700KF
T force Xtreem 4500Mhz cas18 (here ram is set to 4300Mhz because i can't manage to make it work at higher speed, still working on it)

I got 47-49 UPS on my personal map (Z60) up to 50 with cpu at 5ghz instead of 4.8 stock
