[0.17.79] Randomly crash ingame and the when initiating the game.

Played the game normally for 154 hours (great game btw).
What happened?
It all started when I was playing and suddenly the game froze briefly and the crashed to desktop. When I start the game after the crash I can't get to the main menu unless I reinstall the game, in which case I get to play it normally for 20-30 minutes until it crashes again and the cycle repeats itself. I've been through this cycle 5 times. I also have noticed that after reinstalling and experiencing the first crash, when I try to verify integrity of the game lots of files can't be verified (more the 9000). I also want to add that I searched for a pattern of behaviour that lead to the crash in the brief intervals I got to play between reinstalls, but found none. Also most of the times it crashes when loading the menu it's when cheking sprites (40%), but not always.

What did you expect to happen instead? It might be obvious to you, but do it anyway!
I expected the reinstalling or verifying the files to fix the problem (it always does the trick) but now it doesn't. I tried to solve it by myself as I always do but I really can't seem to crack open this problem. Read the all the most common problems and searched the blog but didn't find a solution either. I really enjoy the game so any help is very much apreciated.

You are right it is that version. I'm sorry. Refering to the the game crashing, english is not my first language, but the game suddenly stops and it goes to desktop, I don't understand how the log works but that is what I see (I think that is what is called a crash). I just ran the game again and "crashed" when loading the main menu once more. Copied the log again. If it's not "crashing", what is it doing? Because it certainly isn't working.

The log simply ends without mentioning any issues, which could mean that it crashed outside of factorio or that it could not write to the drive. You said many files fail verification, do you mean they get downloaded again and the verification process finishes without finding issues when run a second time or that the verification process itself does not work?

It tells me that there were almost 9000 files that couldn't be validated and then when it should redownload it said Disk Write Error. When I used the download now button on the right just the disk usage went up, no download. Also I could hear my HDD. My HDD and HDD are relatively new, 2 months old, and the problem started 2 days ago. I'm not saying it isn't the HDD but, would seem unlikely. Ultimately the verification failed.

The second time I tried to verify the window on diskWriteError1.png popped up.

Unplug and reconnect the the drives cable connections and run a hard drive test, if it shows issues rma the drive.

I think it is something with my HDD.
