Oooh addicting little diversion there. I got up to painting and decided I needed to actually do something today
EDIT: Oops I went back to it.

While some are indeed just copying mechanics and designs, it is interesting to look at what doesn't get copied in general.Koub wrote: Mon Jun 15, 2020 7:32 pm Heavy inspiration is heavy. I guess that's the price to pay when one creates a game so good and innovative that it gives birth to a new genre bearing the game's name.
Doom-like, Diablo-like, ... Now, people create "Factorio-like" games.
"Imitation is the highest form of flattery"
You're assuming that if someone else creates a game inspired by Factorio, the Factorio team loses sales. But why would that be the case?
Competition, as always. If there are multiple similar games, people may sometimes choose to buy only one of them.
Looks intriguing, added to the wish list, will see how the reviews look!
Erm, yes, I think I understand the principle. That isn't the point. You're assuming that sales of allegedly similar games will hurt Factorio sales, but a game isn't practically identical to another game in the way that, say, store-brand peanut butter is the same as name-brand peanut butter.Ranakastrasz wrote: Wed Dec 30, 2020 6:10 pm Competition, as always. There are other games inspired by factorio, and such people buy a different one, and not factorio. should that game not exist, or not be known, they would have bought factorio instead, as Factorio-like games are what they wanted to buy, Factorio sells less, meaning less income for The company. This is normal and how companies, sales, competition, and so on work. More or less.
Bought the game 2 days ago, it's so much fun!Blacky007 wrote: Fri Jan 22, 2021 4:46 pm a new 3D style Factorio game was released for early Access yesterday - Dyson Sphere Program

Early reviews are in, which are very positive indeed. Tech tree is deep, lots of upgrades for this and that. Definitely adding to the buy sometime bag.eradicator wrote: Mon Sep 28, 2020 11:13 pm Just spotted "Dyson Sphere Program" which was apparently revealed at Tokyo Games Show. Basically "3D factorio in space". Looks intriguing. Early access is announced for 2021, so it's gonna be quite a while until 1.0 i guess.
Gameplay Trailer (probably a re-upload?)
