sorry to revive this thread, but i guess better than create a new one :D
I'm a great fan of factorio, and would love to see a Factorio port on ipad :D, i think that the tactile would work great !

I saw that the last post from staff was in 2014 saying
This might happen but not before 1.0. We focus on PC for now.
how far are we before 1.0? (to be honest the game is so polished that I didn't even noticed we weren't in 1.0 :D)
is this being investigated ? 2014 answer is far away in the past :D

and discussion in thread saying "ipad cannot handle factorio" are ridiculous, check new ipad pro performances you would be surprised.

so TLDR are there any news about 1.0 and is the possibility of a mobile port being investigated?
IIRC, the current plan is for 0.18 to become 1.0.

As for mobile ports, no... I'm actually not going to go into this any further. I don't know that I can keep myself from becoming a troll...

[Koub] OK I'm locking this : it was 2017 april fool's joke. There are no plans to port Factorio to mobile devices as I write this.

Factorio for iOS?

Post by brunzenstein »

As Apples iPad gets a pretty complete keyboard wouldn’t it be the proper time to jump into this gigantic market

I guess they missed the mark by prototyping for android. ;)
There are 10 types of people: those who get this joke and those who don't.

I think a answer right from the core developer would be proper -

Times change.
The post you mention dated 2014 - a aeon in the silicon world.
An iPad chipset has the raw power of a MacBook 2020 or a well equipped PC - and a keyboard (essential for playing Factorio) that equals its counterpart of any PC

But there is still the need, that it should work without real keyboard, which will need huge changes - not from the game itself, but how the game receives events. Marking an area with mouse for example. Or handling the rotation of the screen.
Cool suggestion: Eatable MOUSE-pointers.

The new magic keyboard includes a trackpad as well. So argument 1 falls flat on the belly. If one freezes the pad horizontal argument 2 vanishes as well.

It makes no sense to have any application on IPad without enabling to handle it over touchscreen. I think also Apple will not allow that to put into the AppStore.

Not necessarily - have a look at Apps for iPhone & iPad Google Maps or Youtube, or the original iOS build in Mac Apps Wallet, Weather or Stocks - you have basically no interaction over the touch screen there besides basic configuration.
And afaik Apple is very anxious (to put it very mildly - as they have only a handful of high quality games on their OS ) to get high quality games to their platform.

I believe Apple really really hates having to tolerate games on any of their platforms.

No. Quite the contrary!
Have a look at their iOS App site - there are tons of games - where they are weak is in the high quality field

Well, I did say they tolerate games, I don't dispute there are many of them on App Store (and I would even go as far as saying they are very profitable for Apple, and that's why they tolerate them). Adding native Vulkan support for macOS would got long way in convincing me they actually want games on their platforms, completely dropping the notarization bullshit from Catalina would at least make me feel somewhat welcome as a developer on their plaform ...

Anyhow, official dev answer:
This might happen, but not before 1.0. We focus on PC for now.
