Is this efficient

Post by laureanti »

i'm planing to construct a robot driven base with hexagons tessellation, this is my blue print for solar energy, can someone tell me if this is efficient and if it will work ?

Solar panel to accumulator ratio is OK.
However, with one BP, you'll produce just shy of 20 MW.
Past the initial filling, 68 roboports fully used to refill robots will draw 272 MW. In short, you'd need 14 of these 'in solar panels + accus) to power just the roboports of one blueprint if your roboports are fully used to power bots. I'd call that wasteful, so inefficient.

Just remove some of the roboports.
That should fix it.

You want 4 to 5 roboports per solar array.

Depends on what you plan on doing with the robots. Do you need all of those ports?

I don't feel solar is inefficient at all for robotports. I used to power mine with nuclear until I got tired of managing the whole nuclear system and went with the easier to manage, less maintenance solar fields. Only issue with solar is the space they take up so I found its best to place my solar fields far from my "work" area and connect them with poles.

Not only that, but it's best to keep your ports closer to the action. The difference of even 20 tiles can be huge over time when it comes to numbers and carry amounts, even with max upgrades.

On the other hand aesthetically that does look pretty cool.

Roboports around solar arrays are only there so you can automatically build them. After that they aren't needed anymore. So you only need enough roboports to cover the area

I haven't been using solar arrays because they look awful I don't find them aesthetically appealing, but this, this is beautiful! Thank you for sharing!
My own personal Factorio super-power - running out of power.

I happen to like this solar array ..

One thing to remember is, you want a minimal number of Roboports, because they only have two purposes : construction, and logistics network connection to permit construction of further away solar fields. As such, they really should not be a significant element of your design; your design should primarily focus on the Solar Panels and Accumulators, with just enough Roboports and Substations to make things work.

production over the day:
42kW*471 =19782kW

drain roboports:
50kW * 68 = 3400kW

loss through drain:
3400kW / 19782kW = 17,1%

I tend to build solar and batteries seperatly in a remote place with as little roboports as possible.

If your base is planned in a good way there should be no large logistic grid.
Bots are really bad for long distance.

What is your power usage guys? I'm on 2,5GW with 3GW peaks and can't imagine building such network using solars.
