18.16 CPU Maxing out on headless

Hi guys

Updated server to latest release earlier, but as I connected to the server I got really bad stutter. Immediately thought it was latency so tested and no problems. Tried at host side (Office at work) and no problems. Checked CPU on the VM and it's pretty much flatlining.

It's a biggish map (I think) around 30mb or so but I don't recall it being this stuttery when I was on last on Monday evening. I wondered if this was affecting anyone else?

I might try rolling back and see if that resolves it?

Now this is very strange. I have rolled back the server to 18.15 and getting pretty much the same results on top from the shell, but in game I have no stutter at all.

This seems to be running on one CPU only, can factorio not work over multiple CPU?

It can to some extent but it's infeasible to do so for most of the simulation (I can point you to more than a few pages of discussion on why that's so if you want).

Nothing drastic changed between those versions that would cause any kind of performance issues. Minor bug fixes and some different textures.

So, I doubt any issues you've having are related to that specific update.

The map isn't enormous is it, did you have chance to look over the logs/map I sent?

I took a look at the save and it's just that you've built a lot. On my i9-7900X it runs close to 11 MS/tick which if run on standard server hardware (almost always much less powerful) I could easily see it maxing out the CPU at all times.

I am looking at purchasing a hosted server, may I ask what spec you would recommend. There are only 2 of us who use this server if that carries any significance on resource usage.

If it's just you and a friend, just host it off your computer when you both play. Your computer is likely to be way faster than any hosted one you can rent.

Based on this i remember to talk with Klonan about CPU RAM and all combinastion for hosting ( i have a E5-2687W v2) and it was "too old" for factorio so i would rent some better material. Because E5520 are really pretty bad nowadays and the ram is slow, everything is pretty too slow for factorio. Finnaly we had to swtich to a Ryzen 5 3600, because with big maps we had the "multiplayer-wait-icon" wich means the server was working...
