Well, I have some bad news.
I was telling my cousin about this game for a while but she's always said that she doesn't have the time to really get into it due to her job and school. She was on the fence on buying it because she really wanted to play on my home server (about 10 people play at any given time with other family and friends) but couldn't really afford it financially and time wise.
Anyways, after about a year of 'missing out' she finally hits me up and tells me that, due to the coronavirus pandemic, she got to play the game this weekend. Good stuff right?! Or so I thought. She got a pirated version. Who, what, where doesn't really matter but I tried to convince to get it legit, it's totally worth it (and you get a free steam key, c'mon!!) and all the mods and stuff.
She can't do it though. Between everything that's been happening, her school and job getting closed, family struggling, she prefers to enjoy the game on a pirated version. She also mentioned that when everything clears up, she doesn't know if she'll have the time again to get back into it when she finally has to put gaming down and go back to work+school. And I get it. I totally sympathize with her. Can't blame her at all.
IDK, I'm conflicted. Glad that she loved the game and enjoys it albeit pirated, but again, it's pirated. And all it took was for something like this to happen to get her to play. Stuff's too crazy, yo, for real.

Buy her the game!
There are 10 types of people: those who get this joke and those who don't.

Koub - Please consider English is not my native language.
Re: Sad Weekend
If she's like the rest of the world, she's probably already spent more than the game costs, just on toilet paper.
Re: Sad Weekend
Don't worry. Factorio is addictive and of unprecedented quality. She will want to buy a legit copy just to help the devs continue to polish the game even more.itendzwithz wrote: ↑Sun Mar 22, 2020 9:24 pm IDK, I'm conflicted. But yes: You should definitely have gifted her a copy months ago!

Re: Sad Weekend
That phrase is used to declare that something was much easier than expected. Ye, know "all it took was 10 minutes of free time". NOT "all it took was a global pandemic".
So just buy it for her unless you're equally short of money.
Also sometimes it's actually nicer to *not* make someone addicted to something just because you're addicted yourself...

Re: Sad Weekend
Hey all!
I have offered a few times to buy the game for her, lol. It's come up a lot of times since I found this game, believe me! I made the mistake of gifting her a few things that she planned on getting herself (when she could) in the past and it back fired. Not like birthday presents or stuff but it was things that I knew she's been wanting and working towards for a while. Even though she was very appreciative of the gesture, she also felt like I robber her of her achieving "I got this ALL on my own" moment. Here she is working her ass off for 2 years and here I come with her prize so effortlessly and gave it to her just when she was a few months away from her herself getting it on her own. (My logic was to acknowledge her hard work and for her to use the money and experience she has gained to further enhance her venture) Which is why I keep encouraging her to get the game as soon as she can and not gifting it outright without her express consent because I don't want to ruin it for her again.
Anyways, this was more of a "I GOTTA tell someone" story and felt it was best to do it here than anywhere else. Honestly being in off topic I didn't think it was going to get noticed lol

It obviouysly is completely different when it comes to Factorio addiction though. Being addicted to Factorio is a gift in itself. Unlike other drugs, there is no withdrawal because you can always have another shot whenever you want. And it actually prevents from catching any other addiction as it is not fun to play it on a phone - leading to minimization of exposure to the bad outside world...eradicator wrote: ↑Wed Mar 25, 2020 2:17 pm Also sometimes it's actually nicer to *not* make someone addicted to something just because you're addicted yourself...

LOL! I got a chuckle from reading that. But it wasn't Factorio back then, it was another venture that she was (and still is) very passionate about. She was younger and was working babysitting gigs to save up as best she could.
