Currently gates can only be placed across straight tracks.
Any chance of letting gates be placed arbitrarily, across curves, intersections, etc.?
I realize there's a nice little graphic that makes gates look integrated with the rail; I would settle for no fancy look for gates on curved rails, if that's actually an issue.
Also I'm assuming the logic for trains opening gates is a little weird because they're sketchy with trains relative to other vehicles, but I assume it could just work how it already seems to work for gates that cross multiple rails at once (the whole gate opens no matter what path the triggering train is on). It doesn't seem like it introduces any sort of special cases, everything should just behave exactly the way it all currently behaves.
This would be super cool.

Gates across arbitrary rail segments
Took a break from 0.12.29 to 0.17.79, and then to ... oh god now it's 1.something. I never know what's happening.

Re: Gates across arbitrary rail segments
This would probably take a lot of additional sprites, as well as some convoluted operating logic for multiple overlapping tracks. I think allowing gates on diagonal rails would be a reasonable middle ground.

I mentioned additional sprites (assuming it's even an issue worth mentioning, but we don't know).Memesicle Kickflip wrote: ↑Wed Mar 04, 2020 11:49 pm This would probably take a lot of additional sprites, as well as some convoluted operating logic for multiple overlapping tracks. As for multiple overlapping tracks, it could be no different than a gate that crosses two non-overlapping straight tracks, or it could be more complicated, but again, neither you nor I know. I mentioned this, too.
In any case neither of us know how the gate logic is implemented so it's silly to talk about it. You either want the feature, don't want it, or don't care. The devs can talk about the details.
I would not be satisfied with diagonal tracks as a middle ground; it's the curved segments and intersections that I run into the most, tbh.
