Launch player in rocket to conclude game

I'm sure this has been asked a million times before, but some quick (~30 sec) searching in this forum did not immediately turn anything up :)

It never seemed right to me that the player can't launch himself in the rocket to return to the home planet (or has that been added in recent versions?).

Without this, what is the point of all the engineering that the player is doing on this planet? Just to survive the biters? If so, how does the player derive the motivation to live? It is a pretty sad world if the player knows that they will be alone forever, or at least until they die. The player needs hope.

Of course launching oneself would be optional, since so much of the game doesn't even begin until after the rocket is launched (e.g., scaling to a megabase and all the unique challenges that it brings).

This is pretty much an adaptation of Space Exploration mod by Earendel

*Biter twist, as you explore the wastelands of space you find out they've spread across the galaxy all different types (can work with a lot of mods that add new kinds of biters for variety), and different celestial bodies have different difficulty levels

Most if not all of this could most likely be done through mods.

Wanted to add this, it makes a lot of great points about Factorio being a free play game having no real direction beyond building your base bigger and bigger. And the fact as you brought up your end production goal is launching rocket. But the in-game interface gives no real direction to this beyond when you first start the game. There is no hand holding, or objective list in free-play.

It would be nice if there was more substance. IE.

Goal 6:

- Research Trains
- Build your first train
- Lay down 20km of rail
- Setup your first station

Reward: x2 trains, x3 stops, x10 cargo wagons, x100 rail

Gradually leading up to the goal of launching the rocket.

Beyond all that everything can be on a scenario bases, and mods/mod packs.

With regards to your point I think adding a modded rocket with ability to enter, and then loading a GUI with the text congrats you won, and allowing you to end the game right there on the spot is more then possible, or if you want return back to the planet.

But it would be very niche demand, to the point developers would never add it IMO. If you want to end the game close the save and start a new game. It's just winning with extra steps, essentially for the sake of extra steps.

Is why I added all the other crap to my post to make the idea more tangible and less tawdry seeming. I mean with Space Exploration entering the rocket could be meaningful and expand your game play, and if that's what you want there is already a mod for it.

AFAIK the task is to launch the rocket with communication satellite on board.

To call for help!! Of course.
