Cannot connect account to Steam.

Is the error I'm getting when I try to link my account to Steam.
Yes, I do have the game, I can play singleplayer, however I cannot access the mod list or download mods in-game.
Yes, I did write to support but my email is ignored for whatever reason.

I hope this matter will be easily settled, thanks in advance.

On Steam, paid a friend to buy it and he sent it to me, is that the issue?

Did he buy the game on steam as gift and give it to you via steam or did he send you a key that you then activated?
