Re: [YouTube] Colonel Failure's Languid Exploits with Automa
Do you upgrade all your ballistic turrets to laser as soon as you can? It's a dilemma no doubt. The ballistic guys operate no matter what your power situation but they sure do run out of ammo on a regular basis.
I like to keep the oldtimers around. They're reliable and make a mess so the question is one of resupplying rather than grandfathering, and with no further ado I present the Incredibly Sophisticated Ballistic Resupply System (patent pending).

Re: [YouTube] Colonel Failure's Languid Exploits with Automa
Upon reflection having assemblers building assemblers is surely the fast path to the inevitable takeover of the human race by Skynet.
This thought did not occur to me at the time, so I suspect I've doomed myself to a scenario where large Austrian robots kick my face in even more than the biters have been doing.
Episode 24 : The future's not set. And biter hunting.

Taking multiple biter spawns out in one go is not an activity for the faint of heart. Typically it's also not an activity for someone who can't figure out how to switch weapons, but hey ho you can't have everything.

After many a happy hour spent thrashing alien nests with laser turretry it feels like high time we turn some of this xenomorphic goo we've collected into something useful. Yes friends, the flasks of purple are all mine.

If you're anything like me you may reach a point where you think,
"That's it. Got this sucker licked. A win is GUARANTEED!"
Sure, your resources are under control, research is happening, the birds are singing, kids are playing in the park, it's a beautiful day.
That's when you get complacent.

I can't help but feel you put lines from this in your videos.
This, is not a bad thing.
This is a good thing.
This is amusing, and entertaining.
Hopefully, this will continue.

Why thank you. I'm not purposefully inserting quotes from the Stanley Parable (an amazing experience, I commend it to all) but I can't dispute there may be some similarities in delivery.n9103 wrote:I can't help but feel you put lines from this in your videos.

Anyway, just for you N9103, because you have a lucky face here's the next episode.

Hey hey! All this violence lately has left a dire need to do something positive. That's right, I'm making more steel. Brace yourselves, the solution is both simple and uninspired!

Nothing better at the weekend than increasing your blue flask output.
Turbo belts! Batteries!
This is deeply thrilling stuff.

Voice/Microphone levels seem a bit lower than usual in the latest video.
As entertaining as usual though.

Thanks for the feedback - I'll make sure to do a comparison in future (this one may also be a little quiet).
Indeed, without resorting to sensationalised fictions about WMD or having to put boots on any ground anywhere we set about securing a brand new oil field. Peace in our time!

Re: [YouTube] Colonel Failure's Languid Exploits with Automa
Started out strong, but got rather quiet again. Seems you fall into talking-to-self speaking level as default level.
Something I've noticed, you don't control-click to move stuff. It will move all of a type of item between inventory panels. (e.g. moving all that stone at once.)
Amusing that you ended talking about not being able to put productivity modules into labs, but the lab you were hovering over at the end had a productivity bonus.
And you can use productivity in labs.

Guilty as charged. Muttering to myself is something I'm working on - without masses of success, but I'll get there.
Ctrl+click is something I will investigate with much excitement. As for productivity modules in research centres.... I've no idea what I was talking about there.
Keep me on my toes!

All feedback is warmly welcomed as long as it's constructive
Anyway, we're back on the warpath again this time with some slow moving laser turret creep helping me to track down yet more alien artifacts.

Re: [YouTube] Colonel Failure's Languid Exploits with Automa
That 'oh shit' moment @22:30 of Ep. 32. Priceless.
If you think you have enough walls to turret creep, double it. Same goes for turrets if you want to leave defenses up to retreat to.
Looks like you've already forgotten that the shotgun doesn't skip through walls, and you've been shooting and destroying your own walls. (and other buildings.)
I do turret creep in the midgame, but I usually expand faster, and never put turrets next to walls. So your method isn't too bad at all.
Congrats on taking down a moderately large biter base pre-destroyers and pre-power armor. Not an easy feat.
Good thinking to get the bots involved on repairs. But I really don't envy your removing of those fortifications, since you don't use deconstruction planners. :p

You are the second person to use the phrase "deconstruction planner" and I shall investigate the phenomenon forthwith.
As for accidentally disconnecting my attack from the powergrid in, as you succinctly summarise "oh shit", you might be surprised at just how often I do that kind of thing - the difference this time is that I noticed.
Anyway, peace and processing are the order of the day. Enough with the violence let's smelt some copper in a more symmetrical fashion.

Re: [YouTube] Colonel Failure's Languid Exploits with Automa
Nothing like starting the week on a positive note. In response to the subtle suggestions -
"Don't put copper wire on a belt"
"You can't do it using copper wire on a belt"
"Only the criminally insane put copper wire on a belt"
and many many more
I've decided that life may be more productive if I take copper wire off conveyor belts. This is a deduction I made all by myself.

Re: [YouTube] Colonel Failure's Languid Exploits with Automa
In the very best tradition of progressive rock music the title for this next installment is "Measure Twice, Cut Once (slight return)". There will come a time when I think first then act, but not today.
