Things I've tried with no success
- rebooted my computer, which helped the last time it happened (last Friday)
- reinstall Factorio 0.18.2 via Steam
- removed all zip files from factorio/mods and updated mod-list.json
- uninstall, moved ~/Library/Application\ Support/factorio/ to the phantom zone, reinstall

I removed the app via Steam and installed the alpha version. It's working properly at the moment, so I'm off to immerse myself in the new sounds. Happy to try things with the Steam client to help debug the crash, if needed.
