I tired playing Factorio through Steam for the first time in a while, so I don't know what version this issue started in since there were probably a few since I last played. When I try to open a save game it gives an error, the first error shown in the log. I then tried starting a new save, because I assumed it was a mod issue with my old save. Creating a new save also gives an error, the second one shown in the log. I tried to disable all the mods, but I don't think any were enabled anyways (I'm still not familiar with the new mod manager). This didn't fix the issue. Starting one of the campaign scenarios appears to work fine. I have already tried verifying files through Steam (no issues found), reinstalling the game, and deleting and re-verifying some game files (as recommended to me by the Reddit post linked below). I do not have any issues with creating a new save in the version downloaded through the Factorio website, and I was able to load that save as well. I posted on Reddit to see if there was a quick fix or if it was a well known problem so I wouldn't be submitting a redundant bug report, so here's the link to that in case there's more useful information:

Someone posted a report with the same issue that I had with save games, which got fixed, but I haven't seen anything about the issue creating new saves:

Although it may be redundant to report the save loading bug, I thought it might be helpful to include in case there is any relationship with the save creation bug.

When you deleted the game on Steam, are you sure all files in the Factorio steam directory were cleared?

I just uninstalled it via Steam, I didn't check to see what it actually uninstalled.

Can you try completely wiping the folder and installing again
