Just finished my very first game

Hello there,

So i bought Factorio a month ago and it was really a huge surprise for me, in less than a week i already had like 20 hours of gameplay.
Anyway, I played the game without even watching any video of it before, just some few things to know what the game was about, and i did the things that a starter does, a spaghetti factory. I started with mobs enable and after 30 hours it became really hard to keep-on with bot my factory and the constant attacks by bitters.

So yeah it is a bit of a huge mess, and i'm doing this topic not only to show you the 55 very good hours i spent in this game, but also how to do really "clean" factories? Like, i'm sorry i don't have the exact word in english, but a factory where everything is where it has to be, i saw some post on reddit where some bases were even good-looking and satisfying to watch, pretty neat.

Anyway, if the dev are reading, your game is awesome, keep on going!

Try a main bus:

It has its limits, but it's a good start to a more organized base. 4 or 6 belts of materials separated by 2 spaces works well.

I've stopped putting a gigantic number of green circuits on the main bus though. Most them are needed for red and green circuits and can go directly to those. Likewise I don't put the iron and copper for the circuits on the main bus.

Glad you had fun but you were definitely spoiled. I was playing with a friend only after trying one of the tutorials for 5-10 mins and we ended up 150-200 hours (and many many rockets) in, with far more of a spaghetti factory.

One thing you might've seen: beacons and productivity modules. They require a lot of power and pollution to do (just the modules... when you add beacons it is more effective over-all but still pretty intense). I didn't learn about them until after I was about 350+ hours in but they are where a lot of the end-game strategy is. I was playing a single-player game after I started playing with my friend and wanted to play more, and during some final hours of the multiplayer game I was looking at how beacons effected machines and it was like "oh my god this is 'broken' and must be exploited".

Artillery and modules can keep biters down... you can set up small turrets at the "auto" range of your artillery and they can take out the settler groups of biters...

Inside, I tend to have my science in rows, one bottle at a time off the Belt to one side, and extra things off the other side of the Belt (such as red and purple circuits). I have my science go counter to the belt to feed my growing science lab matrix below the start of the belt.


Hmm, looking at your map:

Your nuclear reactor is not set up efficiently; the four cores need to be adjacent for neighbor bonus (best at 4x -- 83 turbines!), and I found success with KatherineOfSky's 4x design -- pretty long and you can build it out from a coastline (you need four pumps). The longer the copper heat pipe the longer it takes for heat to spread... and later you can look at combinators to power the reactors only when there is a need for more steam (

In the advanced game I turn off my nuclear because I have solar+accumulators. (easy ratio is 1:1, to allow a little extra for lasers)

You can also automate the cyclotron work to forge U235 from U238 (kovarex) using circuits (good for mid-late-game). This is one of the first things I use Beacons for.



You might wish to look into double rail line blueprints and setting side rails for your mines to load/unload so the main travel lines are not held up.
I like to also set rules on my stops such as together:
"load until full" OR "30 seconds elapses" so if something is slowing down the train will still leave.

OP did not add images, but the link to an imgur page between image tags.

All I see is the text "Image" from the alt value of the html img tag on this page.
The link does appear in the source of this page and it does work if I copy and paste from the html source to a new tab.

Right-clicking on the text "Image" that I see on the page and selecting 'view image' does work.
