Make visible mark on boxes if the volume limit is set

Show chest with stack limitations
I would like to see in any way, that a chest has a set stack limitation (and about how much).
For example: a small rectangle, three dots in it, when any limitation is set. Like the display of a battery capacity, the dots have a function:
No dot is set : limit < 10% of chest stacks
One dot set: <33%
Two dots: < 66%
Tree dots: >66%

Make visible mark on boxes if the volume limit is set
My suggestion is simple - if I set volume limit on storage box I would want to see it.
Main problems - I build a mall and mostly limit boxes where items stored to one or two stacks.
But if I forget somewhere to limit I've got thousands useless oil ridges, active storage boxes, heat pipes, or in nightmare scenario - 480 nuclear reactors.
All I suggest - make visual mark on box (like we have when it connected to wire) when limit on volume is set.

+1
Simple implementation (only graphics needs much thinking) and very high game value.

Re: Make visible mark on boxes if the volume limit is set
Would be nice. Like a red border on the chest/items if the box is limited. I've filled a steel chest with express splitters
I have mods! I guess!

Reddish dot in Alt-mode will be quite enough. A similar marking for filtered storage entities (like cargo railcars) would also come in handy so that less 'I accidentally my special storage' moments could happen.

Re: Make visible mark on boxes if the volume limit is set
Hm. I thought about this:
A very small bitmap, where each pixel represents a stack in the chest. This is drawn as the background of the item(s) of that box in alt-mode.
- No item -> Transparent
- Stack with an item -> lightgrey or darkgrey (depending on configured background color, some color that can be seen, but not too much contrast
- Closed Stack -> Some redish color
If a chest has more stacks (mods), the bitmap is compressed in Y-direction.
Or similar idea: draw a border around the items in alt-mode, for a steel chest: top border line are the stacks 1-12, righ border line is 13-24, down 25-36, left 37-48. Or draw a circle, like a cake-diagram. It would also be enough to count only the rows, so a steel chest could be represented with 5 pixels.

Re: Make visible mark on boxes if the volume limit is set
Hmm.. I've meant something much simpler, just small mark if restriction was set.
Something like this:

tbh I'd confuse this with the deconstruction mark. The indicators should be very different.

Me too.
I just used restriction symbol from screen inside the box.
Ideally I see this as some sort of post label on the box:

With new tooltip system I have small suggestion to add number of stack allowed being shown on tooltip.
Something like:
Something like:
Re: Make visible mark on boxes if the volume limit is set
That's good, but it can't be seen without mousing over a box. The limitation in itself is what's important to me, and someone mentioned a red x looks like deconstruction, so a red square would be sufficient on the object. The tooltip could read "limited storage" or "storage limited", whichever mindset is easier.

Excellent idea (like anything including more bottleneck-mod‘ish features in Vanilla) both the proposed tooltip and the visual representation in alt mode.
What about a bluish „item bar“ filling up (analog to the depleting health bar), if you set a stack limit the bar is drawn with a vertical pointer and the unused rest is for example greyed out. This should be an alt-Mode configurable feature of course.

If this is done, items in the reserved area should be represented by a bar in the grayed out part.conn11 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2019 3:24 pm Excellent idea (like anything including more bottleneck-mod‘ish features in Vanilla) both the proposed tooltip and the visual representation in alt mode.

Re: Make visible mark on boxes if the volume limit is set
You know you can put items on blocked stacks? By hand or when you lower the limits.
So in any case: The limit says nothing about, how "full" a chest can be.

After a quick Google search I had something like this in mind:Trebor wrote: ↑Tue Nov 12, 2019 3:32 pmIf this is done, items in the reserved area should be represented by a bar in the grayed out part.conn11 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2019 3:24 pm Excellent idea (like anything including more bottleneck-mod‘ish features in Vanilla) both the proposed tooltip and the visual representation in alt mode.

Re: Make visible mark on boxes if the volume limit is set
At least manually overfilling chests with a set Stack size shouldn’t be that prevalent. But for such cases some visual indicators like proposed in this thread would be helpful.
