Self defending independent radar layout
I saw layouts for independent radar stations. But they get attacked and so I need also to include lasers and propably a roboport. But they use energy as hell and yet I couldn't figure out a good layout. Has somebody a layout for my needs?

Yeah, that is a way
But hmmm... doesn't fit the criteria, doesn't work during the night

That's pretty clever, sometimes I forget those little patches of land can be built on. Bit more space would be needed for the accumulator I think.

He could move the power pole around and fit an accu in there instead.
Would probably need more than one pole though.

The best method is to spam 5 pannels 1 pole and 1 radar station everyhwere in a pattern to get full coverage
It turns off every night for about 30 seconds but its really cheap and when biters attack it they only destroy the radar itself
they are so cheap that defending them really is never worth it

Actually the idea with the little islands isn't as bad as I thought. I placed some at the edges of the known map, if the island size allowed also with some accumulators, and now the known map grows as a side product (and I will get an idea where the next good islands are.

Re: Self defending independent radar layout
Biters won't make special trips to attack radars; if your radar outposts are getting attacked, those outposts are simply unlucky enough to be on their path to something that's pissing them off, like a mining outpost or coal-fired power plant. So it could be as simple as careful placement based on known locations of biter nests.

If you want your radars to run night and day I learned a simple but good setup from this post. https://forums.factorio.com/forum/vie ... f=5&t=5168

Re: Self defending independent radar layout
There is also a landfill mod that includes ability to blow holes in the ground, make your own islands of whatever shape you need!

That's how Ol' Sam's doin' it. Not the most simple one, but it's safe, works quick and is completely independent.

those islands are also great for turrets if the attack path of biters passes them
