Hello!
I have a very strange problem:
When i play the game, my screen starts to flicker, and ultimately turns black. The game although goes on (sound is smooth, can hear my footsteps as nothing is wrong)
I can get a normal screen again by turning my monitor OFF and ON, but the Problem occurs rapidly again (zooming full out and having a lot happening on the screen does seem to accelerate the process, but not always).
I tried already reinstaling the graphic drivers (Nvidea Titan X) and every possible adjust of the graphic settings.
I encountert this some time before, around [0.15], but some time later not anymore.
And factorio is the only game where i have graphic-problems (was already afraid my card is dying)
Could u please help me?

That is very unusual issue, I don't remember seeing this one before and it is really strange turning off and on your monitor fixed the issue temporarily.
Try to open Factorio properties in Steam Library and set launch options to

Re: [0.17.66] Random Blackscreen, Game goes on
I already tried that one before, sadly doesn't work.
(Tried it now as well).
But if figured soemthing out... which makes it only stranger for me...
I started the game in windowed mode, and if i keep the window tiny enough, it works.
It seems if i stretch the Window over 50 % horizontal, the is issues starts with the flickering, but then comes the blackscreen for the whole monitor.
Again, turning him Off an On solves it, and if i pause the game, the error won't occur.

Re: [0.17.66] Random Blackscreen, Game goes on
I had what might be a similar issue recently, but without running Factorio :
Surface Pro 3 (Intel HD 4400), trying to connect to a Samsung Q7 tv through a DisplayPort => HDMI adapter.
On (almost?*) latest Windows 10 :
Flickering then black screen after a few minutes, even with Surface screen disabled, and Q7 resolution reduced to 1366x768. (With the Surface running very hot - the adapter barely warm, unlike other times when noise then flickering then black screen was caused by the overheating adapter.)
On Ubuntu 18.04.3 :
Seemingly stable forever with Surface at 1440x900 and tv at 1920x1080 (even while playing video on Firefox).
However, I only managed to run Factorio on the TV once, the other times it hung the whole system during startup... (I didn't bother with a bug report, because of the overall instability - also, the logs showed that the game itself started "fine" after the screens "hung".)
*And in an ironic twist, just as I was typing this comment, I had a screen blackout (and for the first time ever, IIRC) - looks like the Surface overheated due to WindowsUpdate Modern Setup Host running in the background...
EDIT: Note that I've been running near-rocket Factorio for the last days without any issues except FPS in the 20s-30s sometimes...
So in your case, I would check temperature and system stability (especially of the GPU, monitor, and any adapter you might have).

Re: [0.17.66] Random Blackscreen, Game goes on
thank u for your advice, temperature and stability were just fine.
But i think i figured it out...
I was altering every graphic option i was able to found, and started even to alter the settings on my monitor.
I checked them before and never thought that there could be the spurce of the problem, given that i never set any filter or soemthing.
But then there is this option (im using a iiyama ), called "overdrive", which was set to "0". I found out that is not actually off, as the Options for it are "OFF" , "-2" , "-1" , "0" , "1" ,"2" .
I have no clue what exactly this does, on there Website they say " it's too smoothen fast movements".
By turning this OFF however, i was able too play abou an hour in my most developed factory without even one "flick", and usually the problem showd seconds after loading into the game.
I like too play some more before i surely can say that does the trick, but it seems good.
Thank you for all your effort

Re: [0.17.66] Random Blackscreen, Game goes on
Okay, i now can say for sure that it was caused by my screen, the problem occured not even once last week.
To summon up:
I had a black screen in the game coming, but game runned netherless (sound work normaly).
Problem was: My Monitor (blackhawk by iiyama) uses something called "overdrive".
Solution: Turning it off (From "0" to "Off")
Thanks for your effort.
..... Do i have to close this post or something like that?

Re: [0.17.66] Random Blackscreen, Game goes on
Could this "Overdrive" overheat a chip in the monitor itself ?
(Assuming that you're in the Northern hemisphere, try again this winter ?)

Hmm, i think that would be possible, but factorio is the only game i had this issue...
I will try out this winter and let you know
