How do people get their first alien artefact?

Firstly, I never knew that there were two ways of spelling Artefact / Artifact...

Anyway, how do people kill their first enemy base now? I can't find another way other than turrets (lasers mainly) and work my way in... but on big start area maps this is going to take forever
Oh Very Large it's ok because they spawn within your base

I just need help killing the damn things before any high level tech It's bloody hard now....

You seem to be running on old information. Artifacts are no longer in the game.

The first few bases you encounter you can kill with your pistol if you keep mobile and avoid worms. The machine gun and a couple turrets can take out most other early game bases. For anything else, I tend to turret creep first with armor piercing ammo and then with laser turrets.

You can also creep with gun turrets
The car also makes for a pretty good platform against small bases. Its machine gun has a damage bonus. It's fragile, but at the beginning that's ok

But yeah, alien artifacts have been removed seveal versions ago

See the death world marathon challenge (0.17) I put in my sig if you want to practice taking out enemy bases before lasers.

But to more directly answer your question:

• wear even the most basic armour if that's all you can make
• eat fish
• shoot while you have bullets
• use your axe when you don't
• grenades are very good early on when paired with fish
• seriously, just eat fish and enemy bases disappear
