Repair pack not working

Post by oakes3 »

New Player. Tried and completed 17-57 game to rocket launch in 34 hrs. Couldn't get repair packs to work though.
Downloaded 17-61 and tried again, as simply as possible. No luck.

Steps: Built furnace - made copper plate - produced 1 repair pack - shot furnace - stand next to the furnace with repair pack in hand - held left mouse button.
No repair taking place. Tried LONG hold, double click, moving away and closer. Damage stayed exactly the same.

Win 10 - 64 - Default keys

Any ideas?

Thanks

Reset key bindings, post the save if that does not do it.

Controls says "all keys have default settings" - no reset available

I would try if a different mouse works.

SUCCESS!?

OK - I originally thought this was a joke. After all, I completed the game using the regular mouse and all other left-click stuff has always worked.
But, then nothing makes sense with this issue. So I plugged in another mouse and, yes, it works as expected.

So problem solved - thanks!

But, I can't but help wonder why a standard Dell optical corded mouse that functions properly in all other software, won't repair in Factorio, but will otherwise work just fine within the game.

Repairing is a left-click-and-hold action. Powerline placement by keeping the left button pressed while walking also is. Do you get a lot of unwanted extra power poles while doing that?

Nope - powerline while walking works fine - everything works as expected except the repair, which now works fine with the new mouse.

Except that is for a weird quick with burner miners which I'll set a new thread with.

Update: Repair stopped working in the middle of the game...
Swapped back mouse - worked again for a few minutes.

Now more than a little confused...

Swapped out third mouse - a wireless optical.
Works again. Will continue to test.

If you can do one left-click-and-hold operation but not the other (tested by trying A then B and then A again) then it isn't an oxidized microswitch.

I would have expected it to be caused by an automation/macro tool or some obscure OS-accessibility function getting triggered. But then it shouldn't work sometimes.
