Hi dev team <3,

So I checked the previous versions to make sure, and it is only with the latest (0.17.53) that I encountered this issue: my screen starts flickering whenever Compilatron's message box appears, and it doesn't seem to matter how far I am from it. I noticed this on our servers first, double checked on RedMew's servers and finally in the base game's Introduction > Arrival scenario (see the video).

Oh, and I updated my graphics card drivers, so I don't think it's coming from there since the display works perfectly fine in the previous versions of Factorio. And in case it helps you narrow down the problem, I use a Linux OS, Ubuntu 16.04.

Not seeing it on Fedora 28 with Mesa 19.2.0 on a RX 560, only in the Compilatron text background. What drivers are you using?

Actually, I should point out that I'm using a toaster... so my graphics settings are fairly low.
I just thought of trying with the settings maxed out, and the effect is as it should; message box semi transparent and limited around the proper area.
So it might just be that the lower settings don't like the new window?

tehfreek, I'm using NVidia 418.56 drivers for my GTX 660m.

Thanks for the report.

Fixed for 0.17.54. In the mean time, you can workaround the problem by enabling "Full color depth" in graphics options.

EDIT: Until I looked up PassMark scores I didn't know how much less performance mobile GTX 660M has over desktop GTX 660
