Bare Handed Starting Option
Suggestion:
+ Allow option for starting empty handed
+ Set option to Default "Off"
Reasoning:
+ It feels good to some people to start with absolutely nothing but your bare hands and work your way up into a megabase. Yes, you can put all your stuff in a wooden chest and shoot it, but this removes the extra steps.
+ The starting equipment: Starting Burner Drill, iron plates, Pistol, and Stone Furnace does however remove a lot of the tedium from the beginning setup, so it is good to retain this as the default option.

Re: Bare Handed Starting Option
A better approach would be to provide several starting presets to choose from, and have "Nothing at all" as just the first one.
A few suggestions:
1. Nothing at all.
2. Burner basics. (Current default).
3. Basic electricity. Just enough to get started building without needing to bother with burner drills or inserters.
4. Basic oil. The minimum needed to have Basic Oil Processing researched and at least one of everything it unlocks in your inventory.
5. Solar start. Just enough research and items to be able to use solar power and accumulators and skip steam engines.
6. Nuclear start. Just enough for a basic nuclear power setup. Single reactor, heat exchangers, turbines, centrifuges for fuel refinement.
That last one might be a bit overkill, but I figured someone would probably want it anyway.
Hell, might as well just allow user-defined starting presets.

Re: Bare Handed Starting Option
Is this seriously how the board goes?
People's suggestions on easy-fix changes that make sense in the normal game, are replied to with: "it's called mods" ?
Why even have this board up?
Why not just mass reply to every post with, "make/find a mod for it"?
The delineation, imo, is "this an easy addition that takes a minimal amount of effort THAT MAKES SENSE IN THE VANILLA GAME and WOULD ONLY REQUIRE SMALL TWEAKS TO THINGS THAT ALREADY EXIST".
Literally the only suggestion I didn't get a "mod" response for was ironically the only one it would make the most sense for, because it REQUIRES A LOT OF EFFORT AND TIME and ADDS A LARGE AMOUNT OF NEW CONTENT.
Devs are busy. Super busy. I get that. I know that, in fact.
Vast content changes are highly unlikely to be implemented, especially given the scope of the game, and yes, the prevalence of mods.
The Dev updates that are available on the website have been almost entirely focused around optimizing/varying current mechanics and structures, rather than adding large amounts of new and different content.
So, what is the most actionable feedback?

Re: Bare Handed Starting Option
Ideas like this have been suggested numerous times. I've never actually seen anybody suggest LESS starting stuff (though IIRC there actually is a mod that does it) but more is a very common request.
To my knowledge the devs have never even acknowledged these threads' existence.
It's also ridiculously easy to mod. I mean... even I did it and I can't mod my way out of a wet paper bag.
Nobody thinks your idea is bad, or even hard. It's just that nobody expects it to ever be in the game.

Re: Bare Handed Starting Option
Thank you, I appreciate your candor and forthrightness.
I didn't realize the devs did not pay attention to these forums.
You've saved me a lot of effort, and I am glad for it.

Re: Bare Handed Starting Option
answer n#2::
go under %APPDATA/.../factorio/scenarios
create a blank folder call it "myscenario"
now in factorio: go under "play" "scenario" --- select "myscenario" in the bottom
press create
...
here we go you start with nothing
wow you have just revolutionized factorio by adding around 15 minutes more time to the beginning which doesnt change anything at all but gives you more time sitting in front of your computer and thinking about something -- maybe thats what you want, here you have it

Re: Bare Handed Starting Option
Are there any that give you a menu to pick out your starting equipment and save it as a preset for next time if you decide you like that set? Something analogous to the map-generation presets?Deadlock989 wrote: Sat Jun 22, 2019 10:16 amThey're called "mods".Roxor128 wrote: Sat Jun 22, 2019 4:50 amHell, might as well just allow user-defined starting presets.
