[posila] [0.17.46] missing icons and GUI decorations (macOS)

Each time i load the game it crashes upon launch (specifically at the load base mod stage). The game only works when playing the 0.17.41 version; any version beyond crashes. I run the game on a 2016 Macbook 12'' (don't blame the lame GPU; it worked flawlessly up to this point).

Thanks for the report.
In 0.17.42 I did one minor change in the rendering as an attempt to fix an issue some people were experiencing. But bigger change was rebalancing of default graphics settings. Ironically, the game used to start with too high graphics setting on macOS with Intel Iris Pro, so crash with lower graphics settings is surprising.

The log shows the game loaded to the menu, but you say it crashes at the load base mod stage. Does it mean the "unexpected error" dialog pops up, but the game still continues to run and load?

Can you try if the game still crashes in 0.17.46, and if so, can you post log from 0.17.41, after it starts sucessfully, please?

The game now suddenly loads properly both in 0.17.45 and 0.17.46, except that there's a issue with graphics. Take a look at this screenshot: https://imgur.com/a/VSUab5E. 0.17.42 to 0.17.44 seem to work until I try to load a map, then it crashes (see second log below).

As to your question regarding the moment at which it crashed, I suppose you're right. The game starts and seems to freeze when it's loading the base mod. Then the screen turns completely black and I get the crash report about 20 sec later. So the game might continue loading regardless of the black screen.

Hmm, there was no rendering related change between 0.17.44 and 0.17.45 whatsoever. Can you try to restart your mac?

Same after a reboot...

The last "fully" working version seems to be 0.17.41.

Workaround: Settings -> Interface -> UI Scale -> Custom -> 125%

I had this issue too, see screenshot. Makes starting a game kinda difficult. Scaling the UI to 125% at last makes the UI visibly render.
I noticed that the game was running at a lower resolution (1400x900 or so). Enabling the 'Run in native screen resolution' fixed the issue completely.

I recently upgraded to MacOS Mojave 10.14.5 from High Sierra. I'm pretty sure that I played 0.17.45 on high sierra with no problems, but it might have been an earlier version.

However, I'd like to add that I've experienced no crashing whatsoever (granted, no mods and no enormous maps but also my laptop is very low-powered 1.1ghz...)

I've tried native resolution, high texture quality. No luck.

I've tried the 125% scaling workaround but it doesn't fix all the issues. I confirm with the OP's results that the UI is now visible but in-game icons are not, such as items on belt and alt-view icons on machines. Also, on my laptop a 125% scaling looks like this lol:

I also am having this problem - but I am wondering if it is also related to dark mode. I am not sure what is meant by "scaling 125%" unless this is an OS setting? In any event, it has made the game unplayable, as I can not see most settings to modify them. The reason I wonder about dark mode is I could barely see a shadow of the "confirm" on the settings page.

OK, I got a weird one: Mine works fine. I was leery of what I might find from reddit, but everything is normal.

OS X 10.14.5, Late 2012 21 inch iMac Core i7 3.1 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 512 MB, 100 % UI scale.

Graphics settings are set to: {Full Screen; Wait for VSync; Show Smoke; Show decoratives; Show item shadows} = Y

I am also having this issue. Everything was fin in [0.17.45] after I updated today this is what I found.
All my belts are empty except ores, and my science labs icons are darkened.
I have tried everything that was suggested above, the only thing that helped was changing the UI scaling to 125% but it only helped me see the menus.

I then reverted back to .42 and tested the game with each subsequent version. They all work until .46, where the same bug reappears. None of the workarounds above seemed to work, not even setting --force-graphics-preset=high as launch option.

As a side note, I remember having had the same issue both in 0.16.XX and in the earlier 0.17.XX when I alt-tabbed out of the game for too long (something like 10 min). Restarting the game always fixed it.

Dunno if this is related in any way, but on 0.17.45 I don't see any autosave dialog. So each time the game autosaves, it just freezes for 5-10 seconds without displaying anything. It's by no means a game breaker, just thought it might be of interest.

Hi all,

In addition to the information above, I just wanted to add that the visual bugs seem to be heavily dependent on zoom, and the behavior seems to effect the transparency of different sprites and icons.

For example, the following screenshots show the same area of a map at different zoom levels.

Full zoom

Items on belts and icons for alt-mode render correctly (chests, assemblers, pipes, etc)

Slight zoom out

New ore sprites are fine, but all other items on belts and icons for alt-mode become transparent

Moderate zoom out

Items on belt are now mostly transparent. Icon's for alt-mode are also transparent, and difficult to see on the black background for smaller icons (ie: pipes, chests with multiple items, etc)

Items on belt now fully transparent. Small icons for alt-mode are now fully transparent (chests, pipes, etc). Larger icons still readable (assemblers).
