The first computer I owned had slightly more than that. The first computer I used had considerably less than that. I've been boycotting Apple since 1991. That was long before I discovered Louis Rossman much later.

I'm in my sixties. Factorio is my second game with heavy crafting (Terraria). Games don't teach you this, but when you're planning things, its a good idea to put your ideas and needs on paper so that you have a vision of what is needed. That's how people came up with ideas for thousands of years before computers but with computers people try to do everything with just the tools the game gives us. It doesn't give us a piece of paper and a pencil so we don't use it and that's a mistake. Write down what you want to make. Then write down what you have to make to make that thing. Make diagrams. Make up symbols for the machines you'll use. Always be aware that you'll need more of one kind of part than an other. Put just one kind of thing on one side of the belt and some other thing on the other side of the belt and never let that belt become contaminated because that always gums things up in the long run. If you need three ingredients use another belt and those long handled inserters even though they're more expensive.

Factorio doesn't teach you that well. A lot of the people that are really good at the game aren't that good at teaching.

Eventually you'll get sick of Factorio, but you'll come back after a year or two and you'll have a better understanding and clearer ideas of what you're trying to do. It'll be fun again.

Don't worry, age is not a limitation in any way. On the contrary, this game can give you a great opportunity to learn good patterns of thinking that you will find useful everywhere in life, school including. It uses good combination of creativity and analytical thinking, and expands them.
All you need is to keep thinking. If something does not work, or you think it does not work good enough (it never does as anyone here can tell you), just think more, and you will find a way to make it better. Over time, your brain will pick it up and learn how to make designs and optimize. Which are skills that can lend you nice jobs or start a business in the future :)

On the account of learning, I recommend not to use the internet to find the solutions. It is easy, but takes away your chance to find the solutions yourself.

I'm 18 and I find it really addictive and challenging to find out the most efficient scheme and proportions of my manufacturing by myself using a pencil, paper and spreadsheets. Can't remember if some game did that to me.

I believe it had 1024 bytes because it was basically the same as a Timex Sinclair 1000, the 1000 of course stood for 1024 bytes.

My TImex Sinclair 1000 had 16 THOUSAND bytes though because I installed the rampack.

In the middle of the 20-30 bracket, to remain somewhat anonymous.
This game can be as easy or as challenging as you impose on yourself; Factorio is very much an engineer's game.

I found launching my first rocket very challenging, since my OCD prevented me from keeping any part of my factory for long. But if I ignored some of my tendencies, I launched fairly quickly. Since then, over the 1000 hours I've played, I basically have ratio-perfect designs for everything (can't wait for .17 to make those obsolete), so the building of the factory now has little challenge in my eyes.

But combinators man, oh how the challenge has returned.

I got you beat. Mine only had 64k, no HDD, not even a floppy drive when we got it, just ran on tapes and cartridges. Man I miss that Commodore64.

And, I'm 38.

28 here, lots of spare time, when I read people half my age playing factorio, I realise i was playing some RTS but was very bad i had no patience i just wanted to win, when i see amazing builds on factorio i always imagine some senior gentleman playing the modern version of the wooden train with his kids and going overboard with it.

before the internet you had the buy some magazine with cheatcodes in them when no-one in your village could help you beat the game.

but people would more often meet with random geeks to play LAN.

Supaplex! 28 autumns young. Spent way too many hours in Factorio, but nowhere from done.

This simulator is for nerds from all ages, mainly challenging your own brain (you can make is as hard as you want). Also the internet helps alot. So much info to find and options to ask.
