I'm trying to (and failing) to get my gf interested in Factorio, but she asked some good questions! Some I knew (and they are in parentheses) but some I don't! Does anyone?
Who are you in the game? (an astronaut)
Why are you there? (you crashed)
What are you doing? (you are trying to launch a rocket with satelite)
Why? (... not clear on this... the satelite will ping back home??????)
If it's to call for help, who are you calling for?
What is your planet of origin?
Where were you going when you crashlanded?
What was your mission?
What is the organization you belong to?
What is the name of the planet you are on?
Is it a known planet, surveyed, or never touched?
Lore
Re: Lore
Most of these questions have no canonical answer. The only ones that aren't already in your question are the name of the planet, which is Nauvis (visible in the map editor and mod API interfaces)

If it was surveyed, you´d know whats around you. Unless its something like Star Trek, you know there is "something" and crashed on the way there (or during a fly by)
A randomly generated map is kinda meh, if you wanna have solid lore. Unless its really big and you are crashing on a different spot each new save
The rocket/satelite thing always was a "why" moment for me too.
Why does it "end" there? How does that help you? You are alone, you cant reproduce. Will you get picked up?
Imho, for a game with that many lose ends in the story, the replayability and general addiction factor is HUGE.
And even if you get hooked on the story, you wouldn´t stay for it.
I think mods like Black Market could improve the story, at least you are interacting with "someone"
There was also some mod that lets you level up and other stuff i cant remember now.
They´d be a nice thing for a more story driven scenario
