Have you matched the building cost of assembly and disassembly machines?
I've seen that assembly and recycling machines ave different materials to be built.
Is it wanted?

Good point. The recipes for Recycling Machines should be the same as the equivalent Assembling Machine.

This isn't a mod breaking bug, but is something I will change in a future version. I've logged this as issue #58 https://github.com/DRY411S/Recycling-Machines/issues/58

For factorio 0.17: v0.17.7 (13-Apr-2019)

Initial release for factorio 0.17
Honours the same philosophy of 0.17 assembling machines. Every level of Recycling Machine can output up to 6 ingredients (vanilla)
Exception is fluids that must use Recycling Machine Level 3
Adds Upgrade Planner compatability

Fixes:

Not a bug in vanilla. It looks like a mod incompatability. I will investigate.

To help that investigation, what mods do you have that add a nuclear-assembling-machine?

Searching public code on GitHub, the only repo with mentions of the name "nuclear-assembling-machine" is https://github.com/JohnTheCoolingFan/Ra ... orioThings (published on the mod portal here)

No results on GitLab.

Thanks. I believe I know what the cause of this issue is, and will implement a fix in the next release

I open my menue and see X new tabs with XXXXX new items to craft.

I go to what builds out of copper, and get XXXXX new items shown...

Thats very annoying and irritating.

Do i need to set a reciepe in the recylcer? Cant it just automatic react to whats inserted? And if it cant deconstruct it, just output it?

The interface that the mod uses, and the interaction with recycling machines is exactly the same as assembling machines. So yes, you have to tell recycling machines what they should recycle.

I wish all those extra tabs did'nt appear, especially as everything under the tab cannot be crafted by hand. I have tried several ways to hide them so they appear only when you click on a recycling machine, and then disappear when you close it, but this causes a big performance hit in response time. I've even suggested to the devs that having a hidden property for those crafting tabs would be good, or that hiding tabs when every single item is uncraftable would be cool, but they haven't listened to those requests.

I have considered mod settings where you can specify what item groups you want to appear in the tabs, but haven't got round to implementing it. Its easy to do for vanilla, hard when you have no idea what mods people might be using.

I'm sorry you find the mod annoying and irritating. There are other mods which recycle that you could try instead.

I think this is a very reasonable choice for how the mod works. nuhll, if you want something that doesn't have extra recipes, the "Reverse Factories" mod behaves the way you want.

I don't think it is a better way to work, just a different way. I like how Recycling Machines works, in many ways: one machine for each type of recycling, and lost materials, is better balanced.

DRY411S: would it be possible to use a fancy concoction of inputs so that you set the "normal" recipe into the machine, and it then internally translated that into the "recycling" recipe - which could be a hidden recipe?

Nice idea, but no.

The way the game works is that recipes are created when you start up the game,. That's before you load a saved game, or start a new map. At that point, every type of machne that makes stuff must have every recipe with inputs and outputs defined. After that, they cannot be adjusted dynamically. They can be enabled/disabled, and they can be hidden, but nearly all the parts of the recipe are read-only. This includes the ingredients. See this link

So, when the game starts up, my mod loads every vanilla and every other mods recipes, and reverses them.

Recycling machines in my mod are, in every sense, just reskinned assembling machines. That's why you must tell them in advance what to recycle in the GUI, just like you would tell an assembling machine what to make.

Other mods use derivatives of furnaces to recycle things. Furnaces work differently if you think about it. Stuff passes a furnace on a belt, and the furnace decides whether it has a recipe to smelt what is on that belt. If it has, it will pick it off the belt, or accept it as manual input by the character. In vanilla, send stone, ore or iron plate past a furnace, and it will pick it up. In that case, you don't tell the furnace in advance what to do, it decides for itself, within the limits of the recipes it knows.

Unlike most of the other recycling mods, I decided not to do it that way, based on the fact that real life recycling plants are based on having different 'machines' for each type of material that they recycle. In other words, in the real world, recycling machines are pre-programmed to perform a particular task, and don't just pick up any old stuff and know what to do with it.
