Is it possible to snapshot the game state periodically? That, especially in combination with a filesystem that supports snapshots, would do a lot to mitigate the stupid harm these people can cause. You could snapshot every 5 minutes or so, and roll back to any previous state you please.

There is a configuration for autosaving, just like in single player. It is possible to adjust the frequency and quantity of saves. However, it could be problematic to roll back to the correct save if an admin with command-line control of the server is not present at the time of griefing. If a server admin is present, simply shut down the server, look for the most recent autosave, copy it to the main save, update the ban list, and restart.

I haven't tried to do anything in Lua, but I bet some scripts could be written there that would allow a monitor program on the host computer automatically restore a recent backup if a trusted player triggered it.

I looked at the save format for other reasons, and it's not very diff friendly, even if you use a decent binary diff program and expand the zip file. :-/ It'd be interesting if you could save as a transaction log of some kind. Perhaps every player action could be recorded, and the game rules used for all the game generated state changes. Just random thoughts.

Panic mode so did not take a screenshot, but "tamestarwars" came into my server and marked entire base for deconstruction. Reloaded autosave from prior to his arrival and banned him.

Want to report "stronggye4" and "Serchewy" for griefing in multiplayer game, when we called him out on reversing belts to iron ore smelting he started to grenade the base. So we chased him and then killed him. HE continued with removing belts while running. Then he left.

Maybe at some point someone should make a little network for sharing bans.
We have 4 servers, and pretty regularly ban griefers.

The ban list is almost double in size from last update.

I was wandering on some free/open multiplayer and that player name come twice for griefing the whole map with the remove blueprint.

We have banned nik96 for griefing on our OARC.

He left his remote base and wandered up to a large base and did subtle things like put trains in manual mode or removed their schedules, in order to block tracks and disrupt production. He was listed as last user on many trains across the whole map (different bases), all of which were modified to cause train disruption.
