Huh. I usually go with 3 fusion reactors at this stage, not 2.
Especially if I want to run lasers.

On the other hand, that was back in like 0.14 or 0.15, before I quit the game for a while (college and all)

Do you not run low on power?
And do you use a tank, or are those actually enough shields? Usually I have more, because worms hate you so much.

Night vision goggles should really be 1x1 in my opinion, rather than the same size as a roboport which can hold 25 robots!

Fighting suit:

For dealing with nests, I run up to the nest and switch to the fighting suit. It will eventually run out of power: for a quick recharge I temporarily swap out some lasers for the two fusion reactors from the building suit. The shields are sufficient if you keep moving and change direction all the time.

It would be nice if the suits could recharge while you are not wearing them
