[0.17.5] All (most?) research progress lost when loading Introduction Campaign started in 0.17.4

Post by malventano »

Loaded an intro campaign save after updating to 0.17.5 and noted that my current research item (that was nearly complete) was reset to unresearched, as was all other research items that were previously researched. Basically, it all started over. Additionally, it appears that all research items are now available in the list where the list was previously restricted by the scenario. In this pic, the save previously had Logistics nearly complete with shooting speed 1 researched (selecting it will start on shooting speed 2), but the earlier research items are now all incomplete.

Possibly connected with / triggered by the other fix made for a prior bug? :

It looks to me like you don't actually lose any research progress, you gain all the default research options (some of which are redundant). Clearly this isn't right either, but if you scroll down to the bottom where it shows completed research, the expected campaign-specific stuff should still be there.

Logistics research was at 99% on this save. When loaded in 0.17.5, this research progress was reset to 0. The items which have been completed now appear to be not completed and can be researched again (?).

*edit* saw this thread was moved to 'Not a bug'. Would be nice to know how/why it isn't?

These changes were discussed quite a bit in the 0.17.5 release topic.

Well, that's slightly worrying. Sounds like you just noticed the problem and hastily changed it before release. Shouldn't something like that be stick out on normal testing of new versions?
It wasn't an unnoticed problem, we just didn't care that older saves would lose the mining productivity, (Something something, early access experimental),
But Bilka did care, so he wrote the small Lua migration.

It wasn't a problem or game breaking issue, just a nice move for old factories, and Bilka should have your thanks.

Might also be worth having a look here regarding the display of research progress.

I've already seen both of the sources you cited, and the behavior I'm seeing is not the same as what is stated in both of those. Your quoted source speaks of losing mining productivity research (not all research) in saves, and I was not researching mining productivity in my example. Regarding your second source:
Oxyd wrote: Tue Mar 05, 2019 11:16 am Your research queue will be cleared when updating to 0.17.5 because of the recent bugfixes related to the queue. I suppose I should have mentioned that in the changelog. Your research progress should be saved, though, and it looks like it is.

We'll see what we can do about the research progress indication.
Emphasis bolded. Research progress was lost.

Behavior was fixed in 0.17.6/0.17.7. Appears that it was not 'not a bug' after all...
