Hit the hotkey (INSERT by default), what you pick up gets put into an empty quickbar slot until you fill the active bar or empty your hand

The new quickbar's better in every way except one: loading it is clumsy.

This rectifies that. Hit the insert key and pick items from your inventory, they'll be added to empty slots on the active quickbar. Empty your hand (or fill the active quickbar) to stop loading, there's a runtime mod setting to make it not be chatty.
