[0.17.2] Can't set recipe in chemical plant [SOLVED, FEATURE]

Post by bobby45800 »

Hi,

Cannot find a bug report on this, but surely there must be one already? But back to the bug. Trying to set chemical plant to turn light fuel into petrol, but flying text says "Cant mix fluids". Same with heavy to light oil, and flamethrower. All other processes the chemical plant can do work fine as normal. Screenshot attached.

EDIT: Found a way to set the recipe. I removed any pipes connected to the plant, even though they had to fluids in. I think pipes are broken (as I've seen from other "cant mix fluid" bugs today).

Thanks,
Bobby

The nice thing about Windows is, it doesn’t just crash, it displays a dialog box and lets you press “OK” first :)

It's not a bug.
It's a new feature that prevents fluid mixing - the small texts floating around above window.
I'm not 100% sure how it works yet but you might have fluid in pipes that doesn't match the recipe.

What is going on with that pipe down the middle?

Isn't one of those pipes supposed to be water and one of them oil? You can't use just one pipe.

EDIT: Just saw your edit. Yeah, it's a feature. It doesn't matter whether the pipe has anything in it or not, once you connect a pipe to something that is designated for a particular fluid, you can't connect a pipe for a different fluid to it. In this case, you have a water input and a petrol input you're trying to connect to the same pipe, and you're not allowed to do that.

Hi orzelek,

Read edit in post. The pipes connected were empty, so there was no chance of mixing fluids anywhere.

Thanks,
Bobby

Hi CDarklock,

I know I'm being a dummy, but that shouldn't affect anything. Or now thinking about it maybe that's why. A developer should confirm that if a recipe requires more than one fluid it checks if the connecting pipes connect to each other before going in... maybe that's whats going on here?

EDIT: Sorry, just saw your EDIT haha. Okay all makes sense now, this is no longer a "bug", I'll edit original post. Thanks!

Thanks,
Bobby

That's definitely why, see my edit. ;)

I'm sure a dev will confirm shortly.

Yes, in technical speak - you can't connect two fluid boxes with a different filter. The two inputs are locked to a different fluid so they can't be connected. Such setup could not work so the mechanism prevents a mistake.
