Tutorial feedback: Copper Cable and electronic circuits

Post by Jackalope_Gaming »

While playing the tutorial I noticed something I'd consider jarring with one of the steps.

Image

I crafted the first assembler then crafted the first electronic circuit, but now I'm left having to make the assembler craft more copper cable (since it can't be hand crafted) then switch the assembler over to crafting electronic circuits once I have enough to make the needed circuits to make another assembler and only then can I have both automated.

It's jarring and possibly confusing for a new player to have to build up the copper cable and then make the circuits using the same assembler. Things that could fix this include:

Allow copper cables to be hand-crafted in the tutorial (haven't seen if they can be during regular gameplay)
Allow electronic circuits to be hand-crafted
Give enough circuits to build two assemblers

On the other hand, it's a good spot to point out that any assembler can be reprogrammed and isn't stuck with one recipe.

If it's going to push it then the tutorial should mention the assembler can be reprogrammed.

that does sound like a bit of an oversight.

This part exists exactly so the player uses the "Swap recipe button". I expect it wont be an issue once the Assembling Machine GUI is redone. One of the joys of working on a tutorial in a game that is not finished.

Thanks for the report, keep them coming.

Even when the Assembling Machine GUI is finished, perhaps having an extra step in the tutorial itself to mention copper cables then switching to circuits might help new players? Or just a little popup when first placing an assembling machine might work. Just a little nudge to make sure the player's going in the right direction.
