Currently, once you make a series of Stone Furnaces for smelting, there's really nothing to do with them once you've upgraded to Steel Furnaces or even Electric Furnaces. Stone Furnaces can either be laterally transitioned into Boilers, or downgraded into Burner Mining Drills. Seems like a HUGE oversight and such a waste.
When you have 4 lines for iron, 4 lines for copper, 2 lines for steel and 1 line for stone, that adds up to a lot of Stone Furnaces that become obsolete.
Please give us something else to do with the Stone Furnaces, otherwise, it's into a wooden box and a few magazines worth of bullets.

I agree, it does seem like a waste of materials... but I do like to run things over with my tank.
Re: Upcycling for Stone Furnaces
Use them instead of walls.
Re: Upcycling for Stone Furnaces
Yes this! One of the first questions I had when I started playing was, why don't stone furnaces get upgraded to steel, replacing or adding to bricks in the steel furnace recipe?
And of course you can use them for decoration/art like advanced/hazard concrete...
Hmm I wonder how a wall of stone furnaces stands up to biter attacks compared to a wall wall

My own personal Factorio super-power - running out of power.
Re: Upcycling for Stone Furnaces
I've never got to the point where I got so many stone furnaces that reusing them into boilers left me with leftovers.

What about Steel Furnaces, Burner Insertes, Burner Mining Drills,...?
I actually see his point since I try to build a Base that only uses Solar + Accumulators.
There is always a random Chests with useless items.
You really start with Stone Furnaces, go into Steel and some Hours later going into Electric.
Sadly Apart form crafting "Burrner" Items they have no other use.
In conclusion there will always be a Item that's useless.
Dissembling/Recycling it is?

Re: Upcycling for Stone Furnaces
TBH, if this had been OP's request, I'd have merged this topic with all the other sugegstions for recycling .

Re: Upcycling for Stone Furnaces
I use them to produce Steel. As far as I know, steel is produced IRL using coal:
So I dont use electric furnaces for coal, but stone furnaces instead. This way I recycle them, and also add some level of complexity by forcing coal over the steel factory.Global steel production is dependent on coal. Over 71% of the steel produced today uses coal. Metallurgical coal – or coking coal – is a vital ingredient

Re: Upcycling for Stone Furnaces
You can already use stone furnaces to build boilers. After that, just put them into a chest, and explode the chest.
