Any easy way to share modpack?

Arrange meetings with other people to play MP, announce your servers.

Any easy way to share modpack?

Post by Dreepa »

Hi,

so I wanted to play MP with some friends, but I have installed quite a lot of mods. Is there any easy way to share the pack with others?
Like, Minecraft has the AT Launcher.
How do you go about this in Factorio, without other player having to manually write down all mods and install them one by one?
Can you just zip the Factorio folder and send it?

Cheers,

No need to archive the whole factorio directory.
All you need is share the mods folder.

Bandwith saving method:
  1. Activate all the mods you want to share (and only those).
  2. Create a new map with width=10, height=10 to keep the file size small.
  3. Save the game.
  4. Send your friends the savegame.
  5. Ask your friends to select the savegame in the load menu and press "sync mods with save", they'll then get a dialogue to download all the mods from the portal.
Also not sure if this works with just hosting an MP game instead of sharing a save file. (Maybe that's an 0.17 feature?)

Good method if all your mods are using mods from the portal without customization.

I havn't heard of 0.17 bringing mod sync for MP like loading a SP save already does. The smart way would be to download mods from the portal and only those it couldn't find there from the MP server alongside the save.

Yeah, 0.17 is planned to have syncing mods with the server and syncing mod settings with the save/server, iirc.

Syncing mod settings with the server has been working for quite some time now as long as you already have all the required mods installed (though bugged mods can break it, in which case you get an error that tells you something like "same mod version but different hash").

My method is to take my mods folders contents, and package it into a zip file. Then I put the file on drop box and create a share link. Drop the link in a discord or something with some instructions to just extract the zip into their mods folder.
