[One Line Suggestions]

Post by eradicator »

Preface:
I only have a small suggestion, so making a whole new thread for it seems overkill. With more active work being done on the portal (yay!) wouldn't it be prudent to introduce an active/implemented/rejected system like in the API requests forum? Readability of this forum is slowly decreasing as it becomes a mix of bug reports, feature requests, implemented suggestions and general discussion. For the moment i'll put anything i notice here and hopefully remember to [ strike ] out things that are implemented (other people are welcome to join, and i don't mind if the implementing dev does the [ strike ]'ing).

_____
One Line Suggestions (mine):
  • Ability to change the internal mod name (time limited? license-like requests?) / Set a forward to a successor mod.
  • Remove gravatar as nobody uses it. Allow uploading custom avatar instead, or use forum avatar.
Link Collection (in no particular order, first thread i found): Partially implemented
  • None Partial ☆
Already implemented Stars collected: ★★★★★★★★★★★

Done:
  • The gallery now only shows up if two or more pictures are present. I might separate the thumbnail completely in the future.
  • Threads can now be locked or trashed.
  • Searches can now be filtered by version.
  • Dependency names now show up in full.

I am unreasonably excited that this happened so quickly. Thanks!

No 0.17 category tag? There's already a mod that would need that :P

On this topic, I'm not sure the version filter is working correctly. No results are returned for https://mods.factorio.com/query/warehou ... rsion=0.16, though there are multiple versions of Warehousing available for 0.16.

Testing...
  • × Version tags return zero results if combined with any other /query.
  • ✔ Dependency
  • ✔ Gallery
  • ✔ Lock/Trashing (Renaming to add a [Solved] tag might still be nice. Makes the discussions/mod look active as opposed to deleting them all and leaving an empty page. ;)
OP updated accordingly.

Saw the Trending feature. But as it doesn't communicate why something is trending (downloads during last day/week? including users just updating from old version?) i don't really know what to call it in the list :p.

Also pressing "View trashed threads" if i'm not logged in gives a standard white "403 Forbidden You don't have the permission to access the requested resource. It is either read-protected or not readable by the server" page. I guess the button was supposed to be hidden for people other than the mod author?

An update for you:
  • Searching while providing a version tag has been fixed
  • Editing thread titles is now possible
  • There is a tab with trending mods
The "trending" algorithm is secret sauce, of course ;)
Nah, the way it works is it simply considers the past month of mod downloads in account and if there was a spike in the recent days, the mod is considered trending. This prevents simply popular mods that get downloaded all the time from showing up. It's just another way to browse for fresh mods :)

Thanks for reporting that, yes, it's only for mod managers.

Anyway, the next thing I'll be working on is notifications. Image

1) Was already moved to completed a few days ago :P
2) Yay! Moved to completed. (Though now i want to edit the category too, most people post bug reports as "General".)

Nah, the way it works is it simply considers the past month of mod downloads in account and if there was a spike in the recent days, the mod is considered trending.
What i meant is: It doesn't communicate this to the user anywhere. There's no "50 downloads in the last 24 hours! (⬆12%)" or "2000 downloads last month! (⬇20%)" (i.e.: "More relevant download statistics." in the OP). I.e. no way for the user to see *why* something is considerd trending, or how much more trending it is than the next trending thing. The other two (most downloaded all time / recently updated) clearly show the information why they're ordered like they are.
Sanqui wrote:This prevents simply popular mods that get downloaded all the time from showing up. It's just another way to browse for fresh mods :)
Place two in trending is currently RSO, which is the mod with the highest download count on the portal. So i'd say the secret sauce needs more spices .

Having a good way to find new mods is a really good idea though generally. I used to do it via "recently updated", but that heavily favours mods that get (sometimes suspiciously) frequent updates.

I lied, I implemented changelogs instead :)

I also made it possible to edit thread categories.

I am quite satisfied with the trending algorithm, but I may add some information to each mod like eradicator suggested.

It would be helpful if the fact that a mod is deprecated were visible in the in-game mod list. That way I could know for example that I should not expect it to be updated to 0.17 and I can delete it rather than waiting.

The mod portal markdown implementation is rather quirky, so the description usually requires some editing to look nice.

GitHub markdown != mod portal markdown sufficiently so that what looks right on GitHub may need to be edited so it looks right on the mod portal sufficiently such that it no longer looks right on GitHub? Well, that's a little disappointing.
